scope mount and rings for contender
« on: March 19, 2009, 07:49:58 AM »
Hello all
This is my first post on the T/C forum.
Im in need of some tutoring.
My cousin just got a 2nd hand contender I think, Its got the cat on the side and a 14 inch barrell.
Its a 22 hornet and he wants to scope it. It has irons on it now.
My question is what mounts will fit it, weaver style preferably. Is there enouph holes under the back sight to mount the base or does it have to be drilled and tapped? This is the first one that Ive ever fooled with and I kinda the one in the family that gets to do all the scope mounting, cleaning and general tinkering.
Which I dont mind, it keeps me busy.

Thanks in advance

Morgan

Welcome to the world of Contenders.  You will need to remove the rear sight and attach the mount to the screw holes you find there.  You won't need any more holes with a Hornet.  Some of the hand canons need more mount holes and more rings.  I normally choose one of the steel bases, but aluminum bases work well also.  Go to one of the parts pages like Midsouth Shooters Supply (my favorite) and look up what they offer.

Good shooting!

:)  Weaver style base #92A fits the rear four holes under your sights, just remove the big screw for elevation, with your thumb on the sights-there's a spring under it. You'll be able to open it and see the smaller screws that hold it on.

For a rifle scope, I use 1" Weaver steel top rings and blue loctite to keep the screws tight. Weaver rings #49042 are the matte, high rings for a 1" scope. They'll get you set up for either a rifle or pistol scope.
