Transporting your rifle

I bought a Cabelas XPG double rifle hard case reg $120 on sale $70. It seems like a good case at that price. How do you guys transport your guns to the range and such? In a hard case do you keep the bolt in the gun or not?

Above all, common sense governs safety. I personally take the bolt out. From a safety standpoint, it doesn't really matter whether the gun is in a hard or soft shell case.

I just make sure that I keep my ammo separate. NC (where I live) is an open carry state. My long guns ride in the back of my car or SUV in a case, ammo in the trunk or back of the SUV in my range bag.

personaly I use a hard case for my guns. I store the magazines, bolts, and ammo in a hard double handgun case. Every thing else like earplugs, spoting scope, target stickers, etc., etc. in my range bag.

sometimes it/they ride in the front next to the center console . unloaded if in a county or city that requires it . other times in a case behind the front seat or on the front seat . Out of state in a case in the back ammo in a seperate container . I have a hard case i use if the guns will be packed with other items .

Most ranges only require it not being loaded. There fore it does not need to have the bolt removed. I don't like to remove the bolt while transporting, just because I want to be sure no partical debrie get in. I like the hard cases so the scope or sights don't get knocked around.
