blackhorn 209 vs triple 7 pellets
« on: March 20, 2009, 04:58:32 PM »
hello

i am new to the muzzleloading world. just purchased my first last week. got a t/c triumph. i am putting together a supply list so i can get to shooting. ive read up on the different primers and have had several people recommend the triple 7 pellets. (esp because the pellets would be better as i'm new to this) i have also read alot of good thing about blackhorn 209. enough to think that the benefits to accuracy, ease of cleaning, eliminating some swabbing between shots, ect. would outway any advantage of the pellets convienenace. does anybody have any advise for me on this. any would be appreciated. thanks

mitch

BH209 is a much better choice then 777 pellets. I will list a few advantages with BH209.

1-Cheaper
2-No crud ring
3-No spit patching
4-Higher velocities
5-Alot less smoke and no smell.
6- Non Corrosive

I concur with the above, PLUS shelf life. 777 pellets absorb moisture like a sponge in there factory UNSEALED packages.

62+ 100 grain volume (70 grains weight) charges per BH209 container.

50  100 grain volume (2 x 50 grain equivalent) charges per 777 pellet container.

Busta,
What kind of shelf life with BH209 in your opinion? I'm thinking of really stocking up. Tom

I think that is too early to answer right now. I have set a couple containers aside from the first case I bought last April to test a year or two down the road, I shot some last week without a problem. The last powder I bought locally is stamped 1205088, some others were 10??086 and 11??087 IIRC. I think the last number may be for the run number, the first six I'm sure are for the date. Just guessing!
