H&R ULSH In 20 ga.

Has anybody been putting one of these thru it paces yet. Looking for help as to what ammo they like etc.I have been looking at the 2 3/4 or 3" Hastings but that 410 Grain slug scares me a little in a light gun like this. HELP ????

I have had one for 3-4years it likes Lightfield hybred exp's and Remington copper solids the best of all the

ammo if have tried ,which was all available ,have two other hunting buddies with same guns and theres 

also like the Lightfields.GL

All 2 3/4" by the way!

The ULSH (Ultra Light Slug Hunter) has only been available since last year, I think you mean USH.  ;)

No it is the ULSH I realize it is pretty new, thats why I am have trouble deciding what to try in it. Thanks

I have been hand loading my own 500gr Dixie slugs but am not having much luck with it. The dangerous game slugs are a little better at 385gr? . For factory you can't go wrong with buckhammers Hastings shoot about the same. But Remington is now using the same ultragon rifing on thier 870 and tout thier new Remington slugs and others have used them with some success. Kurt

Yeah there was a time when I was loading the dangerous game slugs in 20 gauge for use in a rem 1100.It was possibly the best handload I ever found for it.The only problem was it would lead the barrel,which can be a pain to get out of a rifled barrel.You can buy them as factory loads from Fiochi. They call them Aero slugs. Although I"m not sure they still load them in 20 Ga.I did try some this morning in my new ULSH and they shot quite well, but I only shot to 50 yds this morning.I have ordered some Buckhammers in 2 3/4s and three" And some hastings 3" I guess we shall see what we shall see with these.Not that many years ago some friends and I were buying old bolt action 20 ga.s and having the barrels theaded for screw in chokes and using rifled choke tubes. the dangerous games slugs were awesome in most of them.Of course I don't think any of them would shoot as good as these H&RS do. Hoping I can find a slug it likes without having to go to one of those high dollar sabot load.

Part of the deal with the Ultragon rifling in the ULSH is that with the rounded corners instead of the sharp edge should not lead as bad. I know the 500gr full bore slugs from Dixie I'm working with in the 20 has showed now leading problems yet. Kurt

That is very nice to know,maybe I will just stay with the aero slug. I was getting 2 1/2 to 3' 100 yd. groups in the 1100 as long as I kept the lead out

Get some WipeOut, it works great on lead fouling if you give it a couple days to work. ;)

I have a ULSH in 12 gauge that I've been working on.  Unfortunately I'm working a lot of overtime so I haven't had time to get out and shoot it yet.  If it performs well, I might get a 20 gauge for my fiance. 

If the main issue is how light the gun is, you can easily add some weight to it.  I only got the ULSH because I wanna see how the light ultragon rifling performs and it was a decent amount cheaper than the USH with the heavy barrel.  I think my 12 gauge ULSH weighs more than stock USH 12 gauge now.

Well now!Just got back from the range after shooting this Ultra light. I had ordered 3 different slugs but only got two ,I guess one was out of stock. Shot some 2 3/4 " Remington buckhammers just to get started.Sighted gun in about 1 1/2 " high at 50 yds. Shot 5 rounds and brushed out barrel then used a clean patch a few times. Moved out to 100 yds First shot from clean barrel was about 2 " high and 2" right,secnd shot was 2 " high and 2 " left. Next 3 were 2 " apart right in bull. Tried 5 of the hastings 3 " laser accurate. Ended up about 3 " low strining from left to right of target. I am resting this on frame and not forearm. So don't understand stringing. Shot a few more of the buckhammers with good results. One thing I didn't try was cleaning barrel after every shot. I was cleaning every 5 shots Tried a couple at fifty yds offhand,dead center of bull. Then just for giggles with a fouled barrel I tried 3 shots at 160 yds which is the max length of our range. Held dead center in bull put 3 shots inside 2 1/2 " perfect windage 8 " low. This was with the buckhammers. Don't really think I have to try anything else. When I shot this the other day I had a couple OF  FTF issues.When I got home I could tell that with the transfer bar up when the hammer was down,the firing pin was not coming out all the way. Took a little material from front of hammer where it hits the frame when down. Had no FTF events today, so hopfully that will do it. Now all I need to do is make sure where first round goes from clean barrel and I think this one is ready to hunt. Have been using a 50 caliber huntsman for a few years. Now it has a mate. Oh yeah So far I haven't been seeing much leading, Although I have been brushing barrel every 5 shots or so. Alsredoak
