MSNBC crap
« on: March 22, 2009, 05:29:13 PM »
Not 10 minutes ago I was preparing to go to bed, flipped on the TV and MSNBC was on with a program that was probably titled "Guns in America". Granted, I only saw the last 10 minutes (thank goodness) but it was enough to turn your stomach with the bias view. First off,the narrator was from the UK (bad enough) and then it went on to profile a "typical" American family at the shooting range. Right. Let's see,full-auto Uzi,full-auto M16/Clone and then a little 7 yr. old girl shooting a tricked-out Ar15/Bushmaster whatever. Went on to say that 43% of guns in the home killed relatives or some other b.s. and then went on to another "typical" American firing range and the first thing you see is a woman shooting a Browning .50. Did anyone else see this garbage and am I wrong in my judgement? I thought going to bed after an argument with the wife was bad enough;this was far worse!    Kix

The ratings of these liberal alphabet soup media are all in the tank. I want them to go broke, so I almost never tune in to them. Only Fox News for me.

I don't know how they get viewer ratings anymore, but I have a suspicion that the phone wire hooked into my satellite receiver, that the installer insisted I needed, may well be telling a computer somewhere what I watch.

I saw about 10 minutes of it, which was plenty. It was produced by a UK firm about their views on our love of firearms. I think they should be thanking us that the narrator wasn't forced to speak German...

What's funny is I don't watch MSNBC and never have but when the TV came on that's what was tuned and the guns of course caught my attention. I hope very few people really believe that stuff but I know I'm wrong. When the Brits thought Hitler was coming across the channel they practically begged us for anything that would go bang. And the really hilarious thing is that almost 70 yrs. later they would be in the same boat-the H.M.S. Helpless.   Kix

Our real problem is that people really believe that crap.  Real gun owners are becoming a minority.  And once the numbers get high enough with the non gun owners we are doomed.  This country will go the way of the British.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

This is probably all too true...gun and ammo sales are up, but I suspect it's mostly to the same old crowd, no new growth.

I watched it and though it was just another attempt to make gun owners look like blood thirsty fools.  I was not as strict as the adults in the piece, but raised my children with guns, taught them to shoot, clean, store and respect every firearm they came in contact with.

Reports such as this only serves to harm the image of gun owners and may also sway the thinking of those that make the laws.

Our real problem is that people really believe that crap.  Real gun owners are becoming a minority.  And once the numbers get high enough with the non gun owners we are doomed.  This country will go the way of the British.

I agree.  Almost everybody that knows me knows I love the outdoors and the shooting sports.  It amazes me how many will start talking to me about guns and lapse into something about "handguns" or "assault rifles".  Like our minister, who is a wonderful minister and great friend, agreeing with my enthusiasm for hunting and then saying "but handguns are too easy to conceal".  When I explained that I hunt with handguns, it was a big surprise that there was even a legitimate civilian use (in his view) for a handgun. Gun ownership is not just all about hunting anyway.  I don't know how many friends we have that simply do not understand the facts about firearms and firearms ownership.  Many have no interest in it, they don't know the positive safety statistics associated with responsible gun ownership, and they really don't care. Gun control, no matter how contrived, misled, or misrepresented - sounds AOK to them when they vote.  And their numbers grow as "our" numbers diminish.
Another thing is the laziness, ambivalence, and apathy of many gun owners.  They do not actively promote or protect gun ownership or the shooting sports.  As far as I am concerned a lot are just too cheap and too lazy to support the cause and offer a lot of BS excuses for not doing so.
I also regret that young people seem to have a really diminished interest in hunting, shooting, and the outdoors.  When I first went hunting over 50 years ago, I couldn't sleep for weeks with the anticipation of going.  I'm almost 63 now and I still love it just as much.  Last year a bunch of fellow shooters and I worked as instructors for the local FFA kids to have a free day of sporting clays.  The first time we did it, none of the kids showed up.  The second time 3 showed up.  Young people don't have mentors anymore and they seem to prefer video games, etc.
From what I understand, hunting license sales dropped from someting like 16 million to 11 million in the past few years.  (I may be off on those numbers, but that's the best I can remember.)
Our culture SADLY is changing and now the downhill slide is gaining more momentum due to the social and political environment.  Very sad.

This is from 2000...
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2000/oct/23/ukguns.ukcrime

From 94
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/police-to-carry-guns-openly-on-london-streets-1436467.html

And from what I hear there are certain places now where they always do, and some places where they don't until there is trouble,  Guess it depends on where you are at.

Might be hard to reverse legislaton in the States now that have CCW's.....hope so....there are approx 40 States maybe more that have passes laws to let us carry for defense.  Your going to see some screaming people if anyone tries to take that away now.  I would hope the States retain control of regulations, seems to me they always have.  We still need to fight even though we have come a long way though.  Not a good time to relax.

Sometimes I watch MSNBC just to see how goofy they are, I try not to wtch too long so as not to boost their ratings.  ;)

I still remember during the voting on the "assault weapons" ban,N.B.C. showed someone firing a M60 machine gun and an Uizi on full auto. The N.R.A. informed them of their "mistake" and they apologized, and then kept running it.

MSNBC, NBC and the parent company GE are nothing more than an arm of the liberal democrat socialist movement. There is no more news broadcasts in this country. There are only news broadcasts by political movements and advocacy journalists.

It is a disgrace to the 1st Amendment and a direct assault on the belief, that each individual has the human capacity to determine right & wrong for one’s self.

"MSNBC crap "  That's a redudant statement, and just another source of main stream media's bias.

Yup, this is an old issue - as was Charlie the Joke Schummer holding a full auto while pitching the so-called AWB.

Stupidity is all to common today, but not nearly as common as pure ignorance.  Our schools fill the mush filled brains with feel-good propaganda and there are too few healthly, two-parent families to fight it.

A bigger question is how long before we admit we are the world's largest third-world nation, indebted to China, the Arabs, etc. and led by a bunch of two-bit criminals?

The main stream media is run by fools that are nothing more than a front for the socialist movement in government. Yes, having a 6 year old shooting full auto's may be considered extreme by some, but this is an extremelly, extremlly small percentage of gun owners.

When has the press ever focused on the millions and millions of responsible gun owners and their families that enjoy shooting sports all over this country? Have they shown trap or target shooting in a posative light? Do they cover the Olympic Shooting Team? Do they cover SASS or any of the other proffesional shooting competitions? They never will. They will hunt for these extreme cases and show them to America as the norm. They are liars and thieves and they are corrupt as the night is dark just like the criminals in the government that use them as puppets.

The press is impotent when it abandons itself to falsehood."

I agree that small children should not be handling large firearms. My beef is not with these parents letting their children fire the weapons as much as Its with letting them be filmed doing so! What in heavens name were they thinking!  Some British"msnbc" film crew wants to film your children shooting firearms, ya figger maybe they just got back from south America filming naked jungle aborigines, Now they want a little sophistication to go with that?

I'm going to deviate a bit on this issue. I watched the Brit show and thought it sucked and was a propaganda hit piece...which it was. But, you know, firearms are for adults really and those becoming adults shortly...the more lethal a firearm the more you should be an adult.  In this show they pictured 6 year olds firing larger caliber handguns and full auto weapons at shootins....  When I was six years old I maybe fired my dad's 22 a few times and his service revolver once or twice...by the time I was 10 I was shooting the 22 in practice once in a while.  At age 12 I was able to shoot and focus and perceive what was going on and the real danger...more revolver practice, too. I was never able to use a firearm alone till I was 14...that was my father's rule.
So, I'm not so sure that 5,6, or 7 years old should be rushed into these kind of HD training endeavors, basic safety for sure you can't start too young.....I think a casual introduction is more appropriate and formal training comes later with some maturation. Let the kids just be kids and stop making them conform to adult endeavors...BTW, I'm not against toy guns either, in fact for them.

...TM7

Well said!  I have two daughters - now grown and parents themselves.  One was a deer and waterfowl hunter, the other had zero interest and I doubt ever even held a firearm.  I didn't push either one, but was there to teach them, shoot with them, and take them hunting if they showed the interest.

I remember at about 9 or 10 yrs. old my dad convinced my mother to let me have a Daisy Cub BBgun and with that I learned safe gun handling. At about 13 I graduated to a Win. Model 67 (which I still have) but even at 13 I made some mistakes that I have never forgotten. Just about that time I got to shoot my uncles's M1 carbine that he brought back from Saipan,an 03-A3 that belonged to a neighbor and another uncle's 1911 that he got from the NRA for $17. Speaking of that 1911, I just saw it again in Phoenix and what a wonderful piece it is! But shooting these "weapons" was far from the norm;they were just icing on the cake and made memories that have lasted over 40 yrs. For MSNBC to portray every kid shooting a kind of "death dealing" weapon is a crock. Am I rambling? Probably. Good luck to us all.   Kix
