I have used drags exclusively for 50 years.  They are the way to go if one has the terrain to support their use.  An adequate drag for most applications should be made of 3/8" round rod, with the completed drag approximately 10" long and 8" wide,  The prongs should be reasonably sharp and protruding outward from the shank in opposite directions about 1 1/2" for best digging results.  Also, I recommend 6' of chain for best digging results.  The length of chain helps keep the drag flat on the ground and digging while the animal is in motion.  Ace :-)

I use about 70% drags, maybe more.  In my country I like at least 8' of chain and I make my drags of 1/2 rd stock.  My poit is, that the exact specifics of your set up will largely be determined by the terrain and vegatation.   The longer chain gives you more hangups which makes tracking a bit easier and wears the critter down more.  Also, I do not like twin toop chain on my drags, I perfer the heavier 5mm too #2 welded link.
