Lehigh Listened....
« on: March 23, 2009, 09:33:46 AM »
Got a couple of new Lehigh's from Grouse today.  Thought you guys might be interested.

They are now going to insert a 'Hard' ballistic tip in their bullet as requested by a lot of people.  Grouse presented the thought to Dave and he came through + it is the hard tip not the 'Fles Tip'

I am certainly not a ballistic expert, but look at the length of the 10mil/200 grain as compared to the SW - should not length enhance the the BC along with the changed areodynamics of the bullet.  Even the .452/250 will be longer than the SST - and excuse my attempt to place a BT in the 250 but I wanted to see what it might look like...

Next question... you can see in the picture that Dave has changed the base on the 250 to a flat base from the boattail base that it originally came with.  Question is that really better or not?  I think Sierra has made a living selling their boattails as  a better flying bullet so is the BTail better or not?  At 100 even a 150 yards the difference between a flat base and a boattail might not even be measured but for you long range guys what is best?

Another change i asked Dave about was removing the grooves on the 458/300 grain and put two rows of knurling around the body.  He plans to implement that change also, which will reduce the total length of the bullet to under and 1" to meet that rule that some states have.

Might

Now I just got to find time to go shoot the torture test.... but at this point I am believing that this fall a whitetail in Idaho will be introduced to the 10mil/200 grain bullet - hopefully a buck...
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

Actually i do not think I do.... I really think but actually do not know the sequence of events, but I think Grouse contacted them and asked them about building ML bullets.  So he started the ball rolling and has made the bulk of the suggestions.  My only two/three thoughts were - why the boattail on the 250 as most ML shooter might prefer the flat base, and since I shoot .458's for elk i would like to see the grooves gone and replaced with the two knurling rings to grip the sabot. + it would be nice if they were less than an 1" as required by some states...

David Fricke the operator of Lehigh seems to be really responsive to requests.  It is neat to see a small company trying to grab a market share of the ML business, but more importantly listening to the little guy way down the the list and from way out there in Idaho.

I really want to get out and shoot them myself, but I am trying to get two round ball guns ready to go for the April muzzy shoots, + turkey season open up in the near future + the grand kids are coming over for a week during their spring break + + + You know I should go back to work - I swear I had more freetime when I was working than I do now... thank gosh I am not coaching HS baseball this spring.

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

Hey sabotloader, since you and grouse seem to have a lot of influence, maybe you can get Lehigh to laser engrave pictures of Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd on the base of those bullets.  You could specify which picture you want when you place an order, or maybe even get a mixed batch. Think of the extra enjoyment to be had blowing those bullets out of the bore.   Of course you'd have to adjust your sights pretty far to the left.

Not really, just trying to find/make a bullet that's accurate and works on game.  Alot of work still to do, and gonna hunt with it in early April to see how well it does on game at Muzzleloader Velocities. ;)
