The Huntsman ramrod does telescope but from the end that you cannot see. The stock rod is a little wimpy and I replaced mine with the Hubbard rod which is vastly improved. It is much more solid and has the correct threads in the end and is formed on the end to accept pointed bullets and is two inches longer when extended. Everybody that has bought the rod is as impressed with it as I am from all that I have read.

If the oal is 2" longer than the NEF,and it telescopes too, what do attribute the increase in performance to,the dimensions, materials?   Mine got lost in deep snow during our deer season but I hunt Turkeys in the same area and fully expect to find it , but, if I have to I'll make my replacement and would like to learn the right steps to take.       Ken

the hubbard rod is made of naval brass.  it is much sturdier.  It also as stated by Keith has the proper threading to attach a cleaning jag and the tip that comes with it is better for loading bullets rather than the flat one that comes with the gun.  the extra two inches is when extended.  It does not stick out past the end of the barrel.  It has an extra two inches to accomodate 26 inch barrels and 24 inch barrels.  I have the hubard rod.  My original rod sits in the cabinet.

Thank you for that Bubba. I'm working on ways to either allow the rod to work by bypassing the forend attach point, or to improve on the telescoping  rod. Your reply reminded that there is another barrel length that has to be considered when I do so.    Ken
