140 gr. Accu-Bond in 7mm Rem Mag?
« on: March 23, 2009, 02:35:37 PM »
A question for those of you who have reloaded and hunted whitetails with the 7mm Rem Mag...

I reload for a friend of mine who owns a Remington 700 BDL in 7mm. I worked up some loads using the Hornady 154 gr SPs, since they were inexpensive at the time, and he wanted some trigger time with his new rifle. They shoot pretty well out of this rifle.

I have a lot of 140 gr Nosler Accu-Bonds that I load for a 7-08 A-Bolt that I own. will these be too light when pushed fast out of the 7mm Mag?  I have used 165 gr. Accu-Bonds in my .300 WSM, and like them, I was wondering if the 140 grainers are a little light? Deer can run from 100-well over 200 lbs in our neck of the woods.  Thanks for your input!

IMAA if you are shooting at longer range (300+ go for it)
If you will be shooting under that than I would opp for a bigger bullet
with a higher BC but they would still get the job done if the gun likes them
My $.02

You are looking at the same sectional density with the 7mm 140 and the 30 cal 165.  They will penetrate about the same.  That bullet in any 7mm will work fine on game larger than 200lbs.  DP

Thanks. I think that since most of our his shots are at 100 yards or less, a heavier bullet may be indicated.
