Touching up Bluing.
« on: March 24, 2009, 02:04:49 PM »
Hello All:

Has anyone used any type of home bluing kit to refinish their marlin. My 35 Rem is a couple of years old and the bluing is dull. I only want to darken it a little without the high cost of a professional. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Brownells makes a bluing which in my opinion is the best I have ever used.  I believe they call it "Ortho-Blue", it's not expensive and for a cold blue it works really well. I have used Birchwood-Casey and it just doesn't last very long.

Thanks! I will look into the Brownells. If I screw it up I will have it done professionally Its just that in these economical times its not my first choice. i would rather learn to do it myself. It wont do any mechanical damage anyway.
