I got a good old book from that big online auction site(not going to mention them by name ;D)

The Master Backwoodsman by Bradford Angier.  Published in the '70s sometime. It is an interesting read.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

Bushcraft, by Robert Graves.  Excellent book on the subject, best of all you can get them used pretty cheap.

An old boy scout field manual is mighty helpful.  I don't know about the new ones, mine dates from the late 50's.
