Adjusted the trigger on my Handi today
« on: March 25, 2009, 11:56:37 AM »
I have to say this was easy. I did a little polishing and shortened the trigger return spring and I have a trigger way better than many other rifles I have owned.  Virtually match grade. No creep, breaks at a little more than 2 pounds.

Good for ya. Although i would not class a trigger job on a handi as easy. Simple but not what i consider easy.

Do you find the instructions in the FAQ?

I used the FAX instructions as a guide.  After I took it apart and put it together a couple of times it was easy. I found a spring to hold the thumbpiece up, cut myself a slave pin and I could take it apart and put it back together in less than 5 minutes.  I though it odd that it took more to replace the pins for final assembly than it did to remove them in the first place.

Good on ya.  Yes the hardest part is starting the first pin out. ;)  Always have a spare hammer and trigger before you start and you can't go wrong.  I managed a better trigger just by putting in some brand new hammer and trigger parts from Brownelles.  That was the easiest trigger job I did.  It was also my second one.  Just the lubing and polishing have worked for me so far, but I'm not looking for < 2lb triggers either. 3 to 4 are good for me and my handis.

I really wasn't looking to get a 2 pound trigger either,  I just figured out what the instructions in the FAX don't tell you.  An amazing design with very few parts.

I decided to shoot the rifle a bit as we had a hog hunt planned for this weekend which was snowed out.  The rifle hit 3/4th's of an inch to the right after the trigger job.  I think the more relaxed grip I could use probably accounted for this.  I was able to shoot at individual bullit holes at 50 yards and hit them.
