Hey there muddler2,
I have had a number of #1s, all good shooters! LOVE EM!
There is a way to glass bed the forarm, which allows the forarm to be floated. I have done it on a number of them.
On the 1S, I just can't handle the Alex Henry forarm, YUKIE POOOOOO!!
So, the cure is to cut the forarm off - at a 45 degree angle - just behind that ugly grove and mount what ever type of wood tip that rings your bell.
Took me a bunch of thinking on the 300 1S I had, but with a nice piece of Black Walnut in place it was way cool.
This also allows continued use of the barrel band for sling use - another nice feature, and I believe more secure then the sling screw in the forend wood.
Keep em coming!
