Dale, there is no way we can break them unless we inform them of the opportunities of the outside world. They will probably never be able to plan a vacation to Can-Cun or anywhere else for that matter. In reality,we can inform them but they will not have the means to go and enjoy themselves. So all they have in their minds is hate, poverty and resentment. Right now I am planning a hunt for Colorado;do you think the Taliban has such thoughts? I hate to say but the only solution for the Taliban is to put them out of their misery.  Kix

I thought the subject was referring to Obama, Clinton, Pelosi, Harry Reid and their types.

My bad.

The Taliban also want to destroy the US - so I guess its an honest mistake.

Change comes from within.
Control may be more of word I can deal with. Can we control them?
We can be more aware of them and find good ways too monitor them but, as with any person, control is impossible if they REALLY want to do something.

It will not change them all or for that matter maybe not change any ELDERS, but I believe it will take weight on the young ones growing up   The Talli begin to train them young ,what they tell them about us won't be so much of a Myth it will come with the knowledge of American Army presence from a child's view and I think this will weigh Heavy on their Decision to become terrorist or not

If we would develop synthetic gas and diesel from American coal and stop importing their oil, they wouldn't have the money coming in to finance any of their terroist activities.  We have got to solve the energy problem in this country once and for all to stabilise all other aspects of the economy.  Remember gasoline and oil went sky high last spring, people had LESS money for other things including their mortgages, which was one of the triggers of the problem we are in now.

1. Build solar, wind, and nuclear power plants everywhere possible, put them on the fast track to replace coal, fuel oil, and natural gas for electric production.

2. Convert all fleets now to natural gas (25% of vehicles in the US, postal delivery, utility companies, UPS delivery trucks, Fedex delivery trucks, school buses, garbage trucks, city buses, etc.)

3. Build coal gasification plants to use the coal for synthetic oil, diesel, and gasoline.

Hybrids are expensive still and there are a lot of existing cars and trucks that will be on the road for another 20 years.  Fleets can convert in a matter of weeks, with government tax incentives and mandates (fed, state, and local vehicles mandated only, private via incentives).

If we take these steps now, and Europe and Asian countries follow, the Arabs will not make much money with the oil they have left, therefore can't build nuclear weapons, or fund terroists under the table.

We have lots of oil in reserve now. Just stop importing until they go broke.
Also use coal and nuclear for power, stop burning natural gas in power plants so we have it for cars.
No point in converting coal to gas so we can burn gas in power plants.

Honestly if we give them there space(countrys) and stop buying from them I don't think they will bother us as bad.

We have enough oil and gas to last us for 30 years, plenty of time to develop other alternatives.  It is just that congress and environmental groups will not let us pull it out of the ground.

As for the Taliban, They want to keep their people in the dark ages.  They use religion to regress the populous so they can keep their religion strong.  It's self feeding.  Keep the people poor and uneducated, that way only the clerics can tell them what is right and what is wrong.  The clerics rule, and they have no intention of giving up their power.

Islam was a good religion, very much like Christianity till it got hijacked by Mohamed.  He was a Thief, Rapist, Mass Murderer, but a very intelligent man.  He gave himself the status in Islam as Christ has in Christianity.  His teachings help keep the masses repressed, gives all the power to men over all women, and sets it up for only a few to rule.  It is a totally intolerant religion, that intends to drive out all others.  Unfortunately the world is not prepared to do what is necessary to stop it.  Therefore we are destined to one day have them take over the world.

I work in the natural gas industry.  We have enough natural gas in Anwar to last the entire US for 47 years.  They won't let us drill it, pipe in out via the Alaska Highway through Canada.  Canada has already said they would allow it with only a transportation fee.  The only reason I said to shut down the coal plants and replace with nuclear, it for the "greenies".  However Cabin4 you are right, we can easily switch to natural gas for vehicles.  I have driven a natural gas truck 70mph on the interstate, it goes about 125 miles before automatically switching to gasoline.  You can fill it up in about 15-20 minutes at a pressure fill station.  They have a quick disconnect locking valve, so if you don't have it on properly it the valve won't open.  It is under 2,000 lbs of pressure.  Tanks look like acetylene-oxygen tanks used in welding, which also operate under the same pressure.  Only problem is all gasoline fill stations would have to tap a gas main in front of the station, and put in a compressor station for people to drop in and fill up.  Also, in many remote western areas they do not have natural gas.  So, fleets would be the first to change over, with people in the south, midwest, and east switching first.  Mains would probably have to be ran alongside the interstate system and US highways for fill stations to be installed.  Fleets alone would eliminiate almost 40% of imports.  A compressor station takes about 1-2 weeks to install.  Vehicles can be switched to dual fuel (natural gas-gasoline) in one day.  We have bought trucks from GM from the factory already ready to use.  Cost about the same as gasoline with dedicated only natural.  Natural doesn't need a catylitic converter which can save money, but the high pressure bottles used for storage is a trade off.  So, a vehicle dedicated to natural will cost about the same as a gasoline.  Quick easy alternative where we can cut inports not.  Natual gas costs about $1.80 gallon right now.  What are we waiting for?  Sure it is a fossil fuel, but puts off less carbon and other pollution than any other fuel except hydrogen.  CH4 + 2 O2 = 1 CO2 and 2 H20's.

My old employer went the conversion route to propane years ago when gas got high. Within a matter of two months every vehicle that was converted needed to have an engine overhaul because they burned almost more oil then propane.
We had our own large propane tank and all the drivers had to get a propane license to fill our trucks. I don't think it lasted two years when the tank was pulled from the place, vehicle were purchased with Diesel engines and the propane jazz was over. Then they tried some electric vehicles. The batteries lasted less then a day and were heavier then the payload of the trucks. That  ::) lasted less then a year.

Keep your propane and NG stuff, I don't feel like riding around with a bomb under my ass. I prefer Diesel, make it from peanuts as far as I care.

As far as the Taliban are concerned, I don't support them for sure, they have the same feelings about you as you have for them. You can show all the pictures from their beheadings etc. All they got the do is show what goes for entertainment on US TV to prove their point what is without morals and evil for 24 hours a day.
What is the point of Life if you can't have fun.

Propane is an oil based product with much higher carbon content.  Natural gas only has one carbon atom per molecule.  We have ran vehicles 200,000 miles and they never used oil and engine rebuilds showed the valves as clean as a new vehicle.  Very clean burning and somewhat cooler than propane or gasoline.  The high pressure tanks in testing can take a rifle shot without being penetrated, so they are very strong.  1/4 cup of gasoline has as much explosive power as one stick of dynamite, so who is riding on a bomb.  Natural gas is also lighter than air since it has 4 hydrogen atoms in each molecule, so if it leaks it rises to the upper atmosphere.  Doesn't leak on the ground like propane or gasoline.

Diesel however will not explode except under pressure, and gallon for gallon can get better mileage than gasoline.  Also, you can make 7 more gallons of diesel per barrel of oil than gasoline.  So like Germany, we should be using more diesel engines if we don't go to natural gas.

I work with Alabama Gas Corporation as an engineer.  We used to trade our service trucks in every 5 years and 60,000 miles for new ones.  With natural gas fueled we are going 7 years and 70,000 miles.  I don't know about propane ( C3H8 ) which has more carbon and would burn hotter and is heavier than air.  Natural is CH4 and is lighter than air.  We also only import about 2% of natural gas and that is from Canada.  It can also be made from seaweed and cow manure.  There are enough dairy farms and feed stalls in the US to provide 1/3 of the natural gas, but it is still cheaper to drill for it.  Why import oil?

This has nothing to do with oil, never has this has been going on for 1000 years
before anyone even thought of oil, and will be going on when every drop of oil in the world is gone. This is a religion and they have been doing this since the beginning of time. They don't do the things they do because we buy their oil
they could care less about oil. This will never stop in their countries, but
some countries like UK and the US let them move in because of religious freedom.
then they start their sharia law here and UK. ???

If we didn't buy their oil, then they wouldn't have money to buy rockets, guns, bombs, food, build nuclear power plants and thus bombs, long range missles, etc.  They have gouged us long enough.

You are not seeing the forest, they were doing this with knives, rocks, sticks.
for 100's of years. they will do it with guns and bombs as long as they can
but they will get them with or without oil. The people in afganastahn are
the #1 suppliers of opium in the world (guess they still are) remember when the
U.S. was going to stop that "didn't happen" OBTW  OPIUM is worth more than

keep an eye on the next people that move in. ::) :o

The oil companies could build and operate the coal gassification plants and this should make them happy.

The coal companies would be happy since their fuel would still be used.

Environmentalists should be happy since electricity would be produced cleanly with nuclear, wind, and solar, and vehicles would be using cleaner fuel.  Then as new technology can come on line, gradually decrease the use of liquid types of fuels.
