I am not convinced that the "demonization" is that complete. I have heard some HS kids joke about how their teachers boasted about how they smoked the whacky-weed  and had a good laugh about it !

Perhaps this is because the lie of the big bad pot monster is shining through.  Have you ever SEEN reefer madness? It's one of the government anti-drug movies from the 50's or 60's I think.  It is something like "This is Billy, Billy smoked the marijuana. Now Billy thinks he can fly.  Billy can't fly" or some such BS.  If you are trying to convince people that pot is a mind-altering, horrible, evil drung YOU ARE LYING!!!  Period.

So here is what happens....
Father: Son, pot is EVIL, if you smoke it you will become an ax loving sheep rapist!!!
Son (Tommy):  (shaking and wide eyed) Ok, Dad.  I'll never touch it.

the next weekend.....
Billy: Tommy, would you like a nice hit from this joint?
Tommy: (wide eyed) No Billy....Pot makes you an ax loving sheep rapist!!!
Billy et al: ha ha ha (puff puff puff)

2 hours later.....
Tommy: (Hm...they smoked the pot and have not turned into ax loving sheep rapists...DAD LIED TO ME!!!  What else has he been lying to me about?)

So...I propose that allowing short sighted, untrue stereotypes be taught to our children by parents, teacher, LEO's (DARE) etc... is a large part of what is undermining these groups authority with their children.

This that I do, I do by my own free will.

I have to agree with TM7 on this legalizing something and then making even more laws that violate even more rights.  If your going legalize it just really do it all the way, or leave it illegal.  Knee jerk legislation is always followed by more knee jerk legislation because they never think things out in the first place.
Michigan is in a tizzy here already, they legalized pot for medical purpose....but get this, it's illegal to buy seeds or pot, feds can bust you, and some spoke person for the feds says...well, we probably would not convict the card carriers...PROBABLY NOT??  Oh, lets trust them...sure.

So...I propose that allowing short sighted, untrue stereotypes be taught to our children by parents, teacher, LEO's (DARE) etc... is a large part of what is undermining these groups authority with their children.

Agreed WylieKy ....tell kids the truth about it all.  Drinking 10 bottles of coke a day could kill you, all that suger, and you can't even sweat it out on a hot day...ya your addicted big time, that's why you get headaches when you don't get your fix. Coca-cola will kill you.

Pot...ok kids, not phisically addicting...but it MIGHT make you a lazy bum or lose your focus in life, since it's illegal you could get busted, you won't be able to carry a gun, maybe even have a gun, or go shooting, or hunting...and if I think your buzzed with guns I'll call the cops myself and that will affect you for the rest of your days, and I know you love guns as much as I do because you grew up with with them.  So go look at those rifles you have now and think of all the ones you plan on buying, and then tell me again how you want to be able to carry a gun when your 21...because none of that might happen if you smoke pot.

Tell them that!

Sure it does 45-70...I think I already stated earlier...legalize it for all I care.  Of course same rules would apply like driving, guns, and such things.
But legalize it halfway?  ???  So the feds can bust you, vandalize your house and turn it inside out.  They don't do that with booze too much, but you can bet they will with legalizing pot half way, or the State gives you a card, and the Feds bust you with a felony for going out and getting some. Makes no sense to me.
I'm all for freedom...but not the fake stuff.

Ya... I'm on your page 45-70.   Right now it's illegal at the fed level everywhere, and legal in some States for medical purpose,  and if you do a search on people getting raided and busted by the feds...it's a mess.  The State says you get a card your good to go, but you have to obtain it, they will ran sack the place that sells it to you, or you, or whatever they want.  What a huge mess...and it's been going on for some time.  Prime example of people in State legislatures not thinking anything out and or looking ahead.  I do like the idea of being legal all the way and getting rid of the drug running,  booze had the same problem when that was illegal.   You do a search on card holders getting busted by the feds in California and Oregon and some other places,  it's been happening for a while.

Booze and guns don't mix, neither does pot and guns we all agree, but I notice when you buy guns there is something on the form asking if you do drugs? I forget, I rush through those, maybe it's the CCW one, don't remember....but if there is I can see the feds testing card holders that have guns.  There is some major loss of freedom for one of the few who have some type of cancer and really need a card....all because it's all half way legislation.  Another ran sacked home and ruined life because some people were not thinking anything through.

Message to my kids is the same...pot may not kill you, or may not ruin your life, you might even be smart and do it very, very rarely,  but it could sure cause your life to be ruined some other way, or by some other means if the chips fall wrong.

Those two drugs are permitted because they control citizens...and don't rewire them.

Those two drugs are permitted because they're the most popular and the government would simply not be able to prevent their use anyways (they already tried outlawing alcohol).  The same is proving to be true even for less popular drugs, but the push for legalization isn't as strong because people either don't care or like you have been convinced that other drugs are somehow "different".

The remainder of your talk about "control" and "rewiring" is simply paranoid ramblings.  People wonder why they call us "gun nuts", but when half (or maybe less, but certainly a very vocal portion) of the pro-gun population starts rambling about NWO, the Illuminati, and mind control drugs, it's pretty easy to get lumped in with the rest of the crazies of the world.

Wylie;
I must confess, I have never had an intimate acquaintance with pot...and don't crave one. I can observe however, that most hard drug users start with the so-called "harmless weed".
You claim that it has no effect on the user..so why do they smoke it then? Maybe it's just so guys can grow boobies...

For any here that do use the stuff...why ? can you not enjoy life without doing something illegal ? Is your personality so weak that you need a crutch ? Such use it seems would constitute a weakness and it would seem a man would like to root out any weakness if possible; but perhaps I am dealing from an older, more rigid standard of conduct and character..

i  can't  find a thing  to dispute in  this statement
you  are  dealing  from a good position  in life
curiosity  killed the cat....you might be a drug addict  that never got  hooked

addiction  is  not  100%  for  every  one......[tho that is not the point..freedom is]
take  a 10 shot 22 revolver....put it to your  head
90% chance  thinks  will  be  ok ....  10% it will go  off....and  i slight chance  you make it with scars of that 10%
that is the truth as  i know it  and the best way to explain  it

need an analogy where government  fits into  this story
some one takes you to  the nut house [jail]  for playing russian  ruelet  once  you pull the trigger

my thing  is  just that the laws  are  anti-freedom
and  open the door  for other government intervention
mostly the laws  just  create  more of a ploblem than the drugs and make  the drug problem worse

guns  are  lagal  in  most  places  and some  places  they are  not
when  a gun  shows  up at a school ,court house in  the pocket of an athleet in a NY bar
some place they  are banned
then it is  big  news.............and they want to expand the banned areas
when drugs are outlawed only out laws will have drugs
DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO STOP A DEMOCRAT
OBAMACARE....the biggest tax hike in the  history of mankind

Actually, the way our rights are being taken away by this present DC adminmistration, we have a lot more to worry about thanillicit drug use...

Give them an inch and they'll take a mile.  If you concede that the government has the right to protect you from drugs.  You certainly can't complain when they take away other rights.

.

Then all we got to do then is make it illegal for money to change hands for drugs....no exchange of money for drugs, period; if you exchange money for drugs your have broken THE law. Sounds like an acceptable compromise......
