.32 S&W/H&R Contender
« on: March 26, 2009, 02:36:44 PM »
Curious if anyone is shooting this in a rifle/carbine, and if so, what do you think?

I am thinking about getting a chamber adapter for a 30-30 that would allow one to shoot .32 short/long/H&R Magnum.

I've chambered a few H&R Handi Rifle barrels in 32 H&R Mag and one in 327 Federal and they are a lot of fun to shoot.  Larry

My dad had a custom 32 Mag barrel built for his Contender carbine.  UN-FREAKING-REAL it shoots so well!  Heaps of fun out to 100 yards!

i had the same idea you had with shooting a 32 h&r out of a 30-30.  had one 32 adapter made and it was fun to shoot, but honestly kind of useless, not enough power.  had 2 more made, this time using 32-20 brass/chamber.  one throated for 100 gr bullets and the second for 200 grainers.  the 32-20 has the same internal case capacity as the 300 whisper and the same ballistics.  I can download the 32-20 with the short throat to match the 32 h&r and go subsonic with the heavy bullets in the other.  I have killed everything from ground squirrels to deer with these in a 17" contender barrel.    jim

Hello,
I was wondering what caliber did you rechamber a Handi to get a .32 H&R or .327 Federal?  Was it a custom stub rebarrel?

Thanks, Dinny

Really! I never thought to compare! That's a very useful cartridge and I download a number of .30 cartridges to that performance level but never thought to go with the heavier bullets in .32-20.  Right now my .25 and .32-20 shooting is from a Savage M/23 bolt gun. I've been considering a long contender barrel in .32 H&R but haven't yet ordered one. Hadn't really considered .32-20 because of the brass quality issue but with Starline pretty much available, I might just reconsider and stick with .32-20.
