RCBS Trim Mate Power Station
« on: March 26, 2009, 02:37:47 PM »
Just ordered one of these. From what Ive read, it looks like a great piece of equipment to have on the reloading bench. Has anyone tried this thing? How do you like it?

As much as I love to reload, I would love to speed up the case prep work!

Mine doesn't have so many shavings on it but then that's cuz I've not reloaded a round since I was preparing for the 2008 GBO PD shoot. I'd hate to be without it but in all honesty if I were buying again today I'd get the new Hornady tool that does all these functions and trims brass also.

Wow, the Lee trim to length mod is excellent. I'm going to have to do that to mine.

KAYR1, the Trim Mate Station works just as described. I'm betting you'll be very happy with it. Next you'll have to get the Charge Master Scale/Powder Dispenser. ;) It's also a fine piece of reloading equipment.

Wow, the Lee trim to length mod is excellent. I'm going to have to do that to mine.

Dunno what tools you have, a small metal lathe would be ideal,  but here's how I did mine. To drill the annealed Lee cutter straight, on my drill press I drilled a 1/8" hole in a 1" piece of hardwood , then using that hole as a pilot, drilled a 15/32" hole about ¾ of the way thru, drove the cutter into the hole as far as it would go using a block of wood on the cutter teeth to protect it from the hammer, then place the cutter face down in the wood block in the hole in the drill press table and put a center mark on the cutter with the 1/8" drill bit, once it's marked, remove the cutter from the block and clamp the cutter in a drill vise, chuck up a #29 drill then align the cutter vertically against the side of the drill bit so the cutter is perfectly straight up and down on two sides of the bit 90º apart, then drill it on the center mark and tap the hole, mine has just a very slight wobble.

Thank you very much Tim. I was going to post here today and ask you how you did yours, but like magic, I arrived and the directions were all laid out in front of me. ;) Getting the center mark by using the block of hardwood is just genius. I noticed in Dan's setup that there seems to be quite a bit of wobble, and I was wondering if at least some of it could be avoided. Now I have my answer. Also went to the Lee website and I'm seeing that the mod would also be very economical in terms of parts (case length gauges even come with the shell holders for around $5.00) needed to do all the calibers that I'm currently loading. Thanks again Tim for taking the time to write up these fine directions.

Another invention to speed up the reloading!  Yahoo!  I never thought of using the Trim Mate with the Lee trimmers.  I thought my Black and Decker AA battery powered screwdriver was genius.  Guess I have another project for one of the coming weekends.   Thanks for the great idea.

I like my drill and the Lee case trimmer, but then I kinda like simple inexpensive things that work.

Does the RCBS trimmer speed up reloading?  Case prep is very time consuming.

Richard, I'm betting you would enjoy the Power Station much more than your Case Master. ;D

Ya it is one slick tool. I'd tend to agree with GB on the hornandy tool but for the price difference, Lee's case trimmer mod is the cheaper way out. Case prep center was less than 100$ Hornandy was more then 300$ and yes it saves time

Well, It's not often that I say "where have you been all my life?", but this thing is great! I just ran 200 22-250 cases through this thing in a matter of a few minutes, and I'm ready to load. No more twisting, no more sore fingers, no more tedious case prep. Everything works as advertised. I don't know why I didn't buy this thing before!
