Muzzleloader scope
« on: September 06, 2003, 12:46:44 PM »
I'm looking for a scope and some quick release rings for a 50 cal Omega. Should I look for a rifle or shotgun scope? Anyone have experiance with the QR rings - do they really hold zero when they are put back on? I've been looking at a Redhead scope with an illuminated reticle. It looks good in the store, but has anyone used one? Thanks.

The Leupold QR rings and base work very well.  Return to zero is very close every time.  Makes cleaning an even easier process.  The base is the same as for the Encore.  Warne quick release rings and base also work very well but will cost you more.

I've found the smallish Bushnell Banner 1.5x4.5 Dusk to Dawn scope to be a reliable, yet inexpensive scope.  You will likely need a hammer extension to ease cocking.

The Leupold QR bases and rings work great - back to zero every time - great for cleaning.  They hold a Bushnell 3200 Elite 3-9x40 on top of my T/C Black Diamond.

I ordered a Nikon Prostaff 2x7x32 in Realtree Hardwoods HD, and Leopold QR base and rings. They should be here tomarrow so I can get to the range with it this weekend. The scope and stock have the same camo pattern - not that it matters to the deer, but it makes me feel better. We have a reg that says no electronic sights, and I wasn't sure where the Illuminated Reticles fell in regards to it, so better safe than sorry. ML season opens on September 27th.

I'm with Underclocked... the Bushnell Banner 1.5 - 4.5 is very serviceable for the inexpensive price. I now have one on my new Omega.

Your eyesight is really the only way to dictate power. You may need a 3X9... many of us "Baby Boomers" are experiencing different forms of blurred vision. As of now (age 51) I only need reading glasses, but many old-timers swear by the 3X9 due to eye problems.
