Any of the cowboy loads work well in them.
I work for the IMI rep every so often and we had a bunch of ammo for it and for my 1895 out at the range.
We found it odd that the loads that really thumped in the rifle did not in the pistol and the ones that were mild in the rifle almost twisted your wrist off with that tripple H.  (Hand Held Howitzer)
We figured it had to do with the barrel length.  We realized that the Cowboy loads were a real fast powder and we got more out of the pistol and the 300 grain JHP loads were designed for 20" barrels and gave a great light show at night out of the hand cannon.
What grain do you want to shoot?
How ad of a recoil do you want?
and what are you going to do with it?  Hunt, poke holes in targets, Plink, or knock down steel sillohuettes?

I am using the Rem. 300 gr HP for deer and it's a winner. I just want to start to reload for it and try anything from light to heavier.

I do not know of much lighter in jacket bullets in the .458  There are some in .452-454 but a little small.
You can mould some lighter.

Been a while since I checked this post. I've only used the Factory Rem. 300 gr HP and they work well. I just want a powder recomendation and starting point for hunting deer. Thanks
