Yep.  When I fit a barrel I heat the right sized shim red hot with the propane torch and let it cool, bends alot easier.

Get it really hot, near yellow, then back the flame away slowly letting it cool off real slow.  It will bend easy after that.  When you get it shaped right, and if you want, you can harden it back up by getting it yellow again and putting it in a glass of water.  Larry

Its hard to say about the file..unless they worked on the hinge........ But its more than normal that I can say for certain.

I have a supply of spring steel a good friend provided me with for shimming. Many here use alum. cans as shim stock and it too works fine. I prefer the steel for longevity. I was also concerned with heating the stock too hot as you will remove temper and soften the material. But Larry set us straight with quenching the steel after heating.

If you quench it in oil you can color it too!  ;)

I've not heard of heating shims before...I think the Germans at least don't refrigerate some of thier shims but they are mostly delievered in glass .This may be one to take to the shim GURU for a ruling ;D Kurt

Why would you want to sell it? ???  That's a good spread between calibers and a couple of the best.  Good solid base for building the rest of your Handi-Family. ;)  DP
