USFA 44 special...
« on: March 28, 2009, 11:08:49 AM »
Hello all,
Have been doing a bunch of research trying to figure out a big freedom arms 83 and still undecided which way to go with that, but in poking around stumbled on to the USFA website.  Wow, those look like some pretty nice guns!  The single action revolver which retails for 875 looks like a heck of a deal.  anyone have experience with them?  i was thinking maybe 44spcl.  i imagine this gun is not a "hot load" piece, but a 240-260 hard cast at 900fps sounds like a lot of fun, might even be a good close range deer getter!  how do these shoot?  never used fixed sights before, any trouble getting them to work with something like the above loads?

In the world of cowboy shooting there are Colts, USFA Rodeos, Ruger Vaqueros, and finally the Italian Colt clones. That is pretty much in descending order of preference.  You get an argument between the Ruger and the clone camps but nearly everybody agrees that if you can't afford Colt, you try to buy USFA.  Outstanding revolvers.  If I ever get lucky and enjoy a 1/2 liquidity event, I am going to upgrade to Rodeos. Of course, if I have a genuine liquidity event I am going up to Colts.

USFA's are nice quality.  I bought the one your talking about,  "the single action"  with cch frame except in 45 colt. The bluing and cch were very nice when new.  Shoots to POI with the loads I like (250/255 gr cast approx 850 fps)  and shoots a tad high with slower loads (cowboy loads).  If you spend even more money your 44 special can have target style sights on it that are adjustable for different loads.  Someone posted a pic of one of these right here in this section.
