Shot this little pig with my 30-30 barrel. Gun is so short and light it makes a great tree climbing rig.

This was my first barrel for my contender as I bought it to be a carbine. I bought it about 5 years ago. It came with the rynite stock and forend but the wood & stainless looks better to me. When I bought it the stainless carbine came in 22, 223, 30-30, & 7-30 waters. I probably should have bought the waters but there is just so much 30-30 ammo out there and its cheap. Now i'm hooked and have 6 barrels and three frames.

Cisco, I believe it has been almost 2 years since they offered SS as a stock barrel.  I found 2 a year ago but haven't even seen one used for sale in quite a while. I put 2 contender carbines together with 223 & 30-30 barrels as combo guns.  I've had thoughts of an Encore with a short 308 barrel,  little more bang for the buck.

do you guys like the stainless TC's better than the blue. Never owned a stainless rifle, but thinking about getting some stainless barrels for my Encore.  I have a blue Encore 25.06 with the 24" barrel. It's gone back to TC now due to accuracy problems. Hope to have it back soon to finish up the deer season with. If it's not a shooter then I may sell out and go back to my bolt guns.

Possumcop,  Encore stainless is all I would buy.  Weather proof and composite is lighter.  I use camo tape to cover barrel and the SS is easy to clean.  Most of the problems with accuracy have been the lose scope base,  cheap rings and economy  ( notice I didn't say CHEAP )scope. I use only Burris dual dovetail base with signiture rings or VVCG SS base with Warne rings. Nothing but Leupold scopes.  I think the scope is the most valuable component.  Have had no problems.

Thanks for the replies, JD I'm in northeast MS not far from Tupelo and yes I patrol for possums (19 yrs). The best load (of many) I worked up on my 25.06 I could shoot maybe 2-3 shots in a 1.5" group then it would start stringing then 2-4", just was no consistancy and I didn't have any confidence in the gun at all. I have the Redfield SMP mount and rings(3) and was using a Simmons Atec 3.8-12 AO scope. Now I know this is not the best scope in the world but was trying to get a decent scope for the money so I could buy more barrels and scope them, and leave the scope mounted. I don't want to be changing scopes every time I change barrels. So to check the scope I took one of my Leupole 3.5-10 scopes off one of my bolt guns, tried it, and got the same results.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
