Replacement powder for Win 680 in 357 Herrett
« on: September 07, 2003, 05:16:35 AM »
I have been using AA1680 both from AA and mil surplus. the mil surplus doesn't achieve the same velocity as the AA and neither gets to the old Win 680 velocities on a load per load comparison for the heavier bullets. What are your experiences?

ps: Same problem with 445 Super Mag

Try H4227, it's the only powder i've had any luck out of in 25 or so years with 180 to 200gr slugs.  Mag primers also seem to be what H4227 prefers if you want both accuracy and velocity.  With lighter slugs I've had some luck with H110 but son't expect too much with anything under 180grs.

Why not use Win 680?   It's still avaiable, check SHOTGUN NEWS.  when I se it at gun shows I buy all that I can afford.  2 weeks I bought 2 - 1 lbs cans. The old Win round cans, never opened. :D

You might want to try smoe H322 with the heavier bullets also. It works w
ell for me in a .358 Bullberry and the 35 Rem.
