Buffalo Classic .45 colt
« on: March 29, 2009, 08:51:47 AM »
Picked up a new pretty at the gun show today. Nice little 45 colt Buffalo Classic with a 20" barrel new in box. I look forward to trying this one out. It points real nice. Should be sweet.

I am not sure if the frame will accept other barrels. Serial # start with HX. Won't bother me if it doesn't I picked it up pretty cheap and just like the way it points so I will be happy either way.

I also might have an inside on a handi in .22 hornet with a cinnamon lam stock. Wont know about that till Tues.

My last two frames came with HX numbers. You should be OK to swap barrels if you want to.

The .45 is a SB2 frame and should accept all current production barrels. 8)

I went to some old post on the .45 colt and came to the same conclusion. I look forward to getting it to the range. I am heading to Gander Mountain to pick up some ammo for it and to check on dies. Looks like when the weather finally co-operates with me down here in florida I will have two new guns to try out. I still havent made it to the range with the .280 barrel I got from CWlongshot.

From what I gather on the old post it looks like I might like the .45 colt.

Yep, HX indicates an production year of 2007, a VERY new gun. As you have already learned, your frame can be factory fitted with, and will accept, any centerfire rifle barrel, as well as any shotgun barrel with the exception of the 12 gauge USG barrels or 10 gauge barrels. Congratulations and welcome to the addiction....<><....:)

Just got back from gander Mountain. The only .45 Colt ammo they had was one box of 250gr lead flat nose cowboy action loads.  Holy smokes that is a huge hunk o lead stuck in the front of those rounds. So for the sale price of $50 bucks I am ready if the weather is okay one afternoon this week.

Definately going to have to reload for this gun. Looking forward to doing some looking in the old post to find some load info.

I know I have heard Tim mention he has a scope on his .45 but I was wonderin what the consensus would be scope or no. I have never been much for open sights on any rifle. This one might even be a candidate for a nice red dot sight.

Thanks again to everybody on the forum for all the info you've given on my often wandering post.

Mine was wearing a Weaver V3, but since the rechamber to 460S&W, it's now wearing a 2-7x32 Bushnell Legend(that was on the 444 in the pic) that I bought from Graybeard and a gray laminate stock set that I got in a trade from Tallyho.  ;)

Tim,

Would the contour of the barrel on the BC keep me from putting a different fore end on the rifle? I know its a classic look but I think I might want to put a different stock and fore end on the rifle. I need just a  bit more length and I think it might be a bit more comfortable should I decide to put a scope on it.

All forends have the same barrel channel except the 10ga based forends, so you can mix and match all you want.  ;)

Phat,

Looks real sweet. Where did you get the stocks? I think I would like it much better with a normal stock configuration and scope.

Maybe I should put the factory stock in the classifieds.

Tim,
Have you been pruning? That barrel seems pretty short!!!

No pruning, it's the standard 20" 45 Colt 460S&W carbine barrel.  8)

CW thats one of them optical dilussions caused by stuffing a 460 in there...has somthin to do wit the digitized camera not being able to distiguish what it's seein til it go BOOM or at least that's what I heard.  ;)Kurt

I think Kurt's right about the optical delusion, the slim profile of the carbine forend compared to the fat profile of the lam forend makes the barrel look stubby even tho the forends are the same length.  :D
