Hunting Pictures (I'me slow)
« on: March 30, 2009, 09:07:57 AM »
Here are a couple pictures from my deer hunt last fall. I just figure out how to get them reduced or I would have posted them sooner.

Thanks Rusty and Skunk,

Did you notice anything strange about the deer.......both had horns on only one side of their head. I literally have hundreds of deer pictures from game cams on that farm and never once did I get a picture of a one horned deer. And yet I shot two on the same morning. Go figure. Did not change the taste of the backstrap one little bit.

See, that's what I'm thinking too, Kinslayer. You can't eat those antlers. Well, maybe some folks do. ;) I'm the first guy that would love to take home a huge trophy rack of antlers, by what I really want the most is meat. :D

Nice pics and good shooting! Thanks for the post.

Never could boil an antler enough to eat it!

Oldshooter,

I hear you. One of these days I will get one big enough to go on the wall but untill then I am not going to complain too much as long as my freezer is full. My friends who benifit from my freezer don't seem to mind either. Amazing the friends that pop in to visit when they know you have some fresh backstap hitting the grill.

 ;D  ;D

The ten point I got this year was still a ten point but all but one of his antler tips had been broken in fights.

Raider,

Very nice! Did the venison taste any different? What kind of loads did you use. I just got a .45 colt and look forward to hunting with it this fall. Apparently these pistol rounds work very well out of our handis.  ;D  ::)  ;)

i have a couple of deer rifles(bolt guns) and i would rather hunt with my .357 handi than anything i've got . "I LOVE" a pistol round out of a rifle. i use MAGTECH 158 grain SJSP's out of this gun and get 1 inch groups at 100 yards. i killed three deer with this gun last year and two of them dropped in their tracks and the other one (the one in the picture above) only ran about 50 yards, it was a clean pass through both lungs . i had a good blood trail and walked right to him.
the backstrap and tenderloin tasted just fine ;) the picture below is a 100 yard group using the .357 and the MAGTECH's . each square is 1 inch . the one at the bottom right was me in a hurry   :P
