i saw this on a airgun hunting site so i posted it here. I  disagree with the assertion that they don't view dogs and cats as food (i saw a coyotes with a dead cat in it's mouth one time). I don't like coyotes

Very good observation and the snow can tell the story for sure. Case point is that I will travel a couple hrs to the S\E each winter to visit a daughter. The wife gets to drive on these trips through the fairly open farm country that is dotted with small towns and your farm houses of course. The Coyote tracks can be seen out in the wide open and are often straight as an arrow but will hone in or converge on every single town or farm house in their path. Once they are past that said dwelling, they will fan out again. In short, those Coyotes are doing this 365 days a year and probably visit your town almost on a daily basis.

I haven`t seen my brothers cat in over a week, but when I pulled in to feed it this morning I saw a coyote out in the field behind his house, and I didn`t have a rifle with me, but will have tommrow, and the coyote won`t be there.  Yep, that`s me, a day late and a dollar short, or in this case a gun.

I live right in the middle of town, in a village where houses are 30 feet apart.  Just in front of my place is a wooded field that is kept mowed close and has no low cover.  I have seen coyotes there on two occasions.  I told my wife to stay with the little dog when she let her out, or she might disappear.  Unless those coyotes are climbing trees for squirrils, there isn't much else for them to eat except a few rats and people's pets around here.

Can't legally shoot here, nor would it be safe to do so anyway.

Get a Great Pyrenees.  Next time you see a coyote, point it out to the dog (on the off chance he doesn't notice it first) and get out of his way.  He probably won't come back to your call if he's on a coyote (mine never did), but he will come back (mine always did).  He may have some blood on him when he comes back (mine did regularly), but it probably won't be his (never was on mine) and should wash out pretty easily.  When it's a pup, you'll have to make sure he doesn't get caught in live traps (mine only did once, but his sister got caught in the same trap twice after that), but once they're a couple of years old, they're a bit too big to fit into most live traps.

My uncle and cousins in Denver just told me coyotes are attacking pets on leashes while owners are walking them in the park.

Although true.  These beautiful Great Pyrenees aren't for everyone because of their large size and heavy coat.   Gabriel here weighs a muscular 125 lbs.   Missy lying down isn't quite that heavy.   The Pyrenees are gentle with people, unlike their near relatives from Europe which can be very agressive to all but their owners.
Eye witnesses have seen Gabriels Sire kill a coyote instantly with his massive crushing jaws.   Very protective of sheep, even to help clean up newborn twins, or find a hidden baby lamb on the range and carry it back to the barn.   They can be amazing creatures.

They are thick here in NE Kansas.  Farmers tell me their new born cows are killed regularilly.  I saw packs of 5 and 6 this last turkey season.
I have found that killing coyotes is a good way to get in good with land owner, especially if he has stock or pets.

Coyotes have almost ended Antelope in the Antelope valley of CA.
They are bad.  I have been sent out to clear out Rabbits on peoples farms to take away the food supply of the Coyotes as well as been sent out to get rid of a few that have attacked dogs in the neighbor hood. 
My ols neighbor names all his Cats CP and then a letter and a number.  the CP stood for Coyote POOP.
Well with Billions of $ in the Obama budget I say we have Homeland Security Issue Jamaldog a national preditor hunting license and a couple of rifles.  Figure a 22 mag, a 22Hornet, and a 223 Rem, along with 5K of ammo for each rifle a truck and a Gov't credit card to pay for gas and food and with his hunitng skills he can have the Coyotes trimmed back to where they are not a problem.

    i am not that good of a hunter, shoot most of the kills i made were on yotes that had never hear those calls before(i used deer,duck, and Primos Peacock call). I used whatever i had but my 22LR was a killing gun(killed 3 at one sitting becuase the 22LR is not very loud so they never know what hit them). I am more then likely the worst hunter on this site. If it's rats or starlings i am king of the hill but everything else, i suck at.  but your right there would be blood, lots of blood.

I've got my old Springfield 22 loaded up near the door.  City or not, if I get a shot that won't endanger someone, the coyotes will die.  I went walking in the little park the other day, and approached a coyote to about 50' before he decided to "amble" away.  They definately are not afraid.

i took one just the other day with a slingshot. I could not find my powerful Mag bands(with those i can get up to 250MPR or 366.6666666666667 Feet per Second) so i used daisy yollow bands (only 308 Feet per Second)
and i had to end it with my big john knife(think Bowie and then sword and that the knife). this yote had been fallowing me ever time i was walking with my pet rat and when i was with my mom on a walk(olivia pointed it out, "why is that dog follow us and evertime we stop it stops". If i had my mag bands it would have been a easy kill, i used 38cal steel which are 80 GR. the thing had a lot of missing fur so i dug a hole and put it in it.

You don't know the half of it!     Our puppy, almost 13 months old, is still growing at a rate of 1 or 2 pounds a week!  She downs about 4 to 6 cups of food a day... 

Absolutely a GREAT dog though!

The lady next to my church has 3 of those dogs. Not only do they keep yotes and dogs away from her sheep, I don't go near her fence either! Those are BIG dogs!

If I had that dog it would have to kill coyotes to eat...I couldn't afford the dog chow.....

I fed mine with an old 3 lb. Folgers can.  Filled to the brim with dog food, and he'd eat all of it.  When he got older (7 or 8 years old), it got to where he'd only eat about 2/3rds of a can, and it stayed that way till he passed at the age of 11 (and I'm not ashamed to admit I cried my then 24 year old eyes out over that).

Seems like that's the norm for these big ole guys.    That's not much though if you're relying on them to protect your livestock investment from coyote and stray dog attacks.
  They are so big they need to be trained at an early age not to jump up on you.   That could be dangerous to your health.
