How clueless is this?
« on: March 30, 2009, 03:14:52 PM »
Today the US government took over GM, with the clear direction that they want the company to make green cars. There's only one leeetle problem. All of the competition in the world is better at that game that GM is, and if push comes to shove in that competitive game, GM will go under faster than a lead anvil. Toyota alone has more expertise in this area than most of the other companies put together.

I read an article in Wired! about how GM, Ford, Chrysler tear apart each others cars to see how they build them and costs involved. When they ripped a Prius apart, they stated they could do it for $38k - $45k. Last time I check a Prius was around $26k. I don't think they can do it and make a profit. The Hyundai plant in Tennessee can can change platforms in three hours while a GM plant takes two days to change platforms.

But not too many people need a new car and we have a plethora of used cars sitting in lots right next to brand new ones not going anywhere either.

Take the unions out of the equation and they can be competative!
