H&R Buffalo Classic 45-70 for Long Distance Side matches?
« on: March 31, 2009, 12:34:17 AM »
From everything I've read in the SASS manual I've deemed that the H&R Buffalo Classic as a rifle is legal for long distance matches, but that the Williams peep sight that comes on it isn't a legal rear sight. I also understand from my reading that ladder style sights are legal, so would the sight in the picture below make my BC legal? It's from an old Krag-Jorgenson rifle and am hoping it will make my BC legal for side matches. Thanks, Brett

Fishteach, you're good to go. The K-J site is legal!

A lot of clubs will let you shoot your BC with the williams sight, you just can't shoot it that way in a SASS sanctioned shoot. I have shot mine with several different clubs.

You can mount a Marbles tang site to your BC and be legal and period correct. You use the same sight as the Browning 1885 without tang that is sold by Buffalo Arms. There is a brass insert sold by woodworking sites that take a 10-32 screw. You drill two holes with a 17/64 bit and epoxy in the inserts and mount sight.
