grip size
« on: March 31, 2009, 05:30:34 AM »
I have always loved the sig P220, however due to issues with my right hand I can no longer tolerate shooting one. My question is how does the grip size on the 226,229,&239s compare with the P220. I need a thinner grip and a step down in recoil.

I have a 220, 229, and 226.
The grip on the 229 and the 226 is the same and it quite large, both in 9X19 Luger,  Your standard double stack.
The recoil on my 229 is minimal.
I used to load three rounds in the mag and then stick in a +p round and then top off the mag with the 226.
That way it was a bunch of bangs and then a BANG and I knew I had three rounds left in the mag.
My 229 I can not tell a +P round.
If you need a slimmer profile than the P239 will work for you.
9mm should be fine.
There is also the option that the 220 was chambered in 38 Super.  You would need a new barrel and mag to make it work.
Also Hogue makes soft rubber  grips for hte 220.  My 220 Sport came with them.

Thanks Woodduck, That answers my question. I have owned a couple of 239s but never the 226 or 229. Sounds like the 239 is what I need to look for. No gun shops within about 700 miles to handle them at. I can order online but need to know what I want first.  ;) Regards

You may also consider a P6 the grip is longer than a 239. The Gander Mtn around here have had 220 in 9mm lately as well
