Watcha y'all usin' in your .204 Ruger?
« on: March 31, 2009, 03:33:18 PM »
Seriously, just wondering what bullets are working best in your Handi's.  Just got a .204 Ultra Varmint, waiting on a scope to come in and looking to get some components to begin reloading.  Tried a .204 in a Contender pistol, but it didn't like bullets heavier than 32 grain, anything heavier would keyhole at 100 yards.  Got some 32 grain factory Winchester ammunition to try when I get the scope mounted, but I'd like to try some of the heavier stuff when I got to load my own.

If yours shoots as good as my Handi you are going to love it.

I shoot factory Hornady 32gr V-MAX.
5 shots ubder a sime at a 100 if I can hold it still!

This is the only load I have ever put through mine.
It shots so good with it that I havn't bothered to try anything else.
Sighted at 1.5" high at 100 you can still hold dead on at 300 on a fox for the kill.

Post a range report when you have yours up and running.

All I can say is when I had my 204 Handi it was a hell of a shooter. With Factory Hornady ammo even my sloppiest were .75..... Sorry no reloading info as I had to get rid of it, but man I will own another.

+3 for the Hornady Factory 32gr Vmax loadings.  Mine was also a shooter with that. I just kept buying the factory, couldn't imagine trying to hold those tiny pills over and over.  I'd probably lose more than I loaded.  I have a hard enough time with the .224" bullets.  But if you shoot alot,...well you know how that is.  Good luck.  I'd still start with a few boxes of factory, then you got some good hornady brass to reload with.

Thanks, I just hate buying factory stuff when I don't have to since I've got all the equipment.  I've got a couple of boxes of the Win ammo left over from when I was shooting the 14" Tender pistol.  I'll use that to start with, plus I saved the brass from what I did shoot.  Got a few colonies of prairie dogs out at the old farmstead to shoot this spring.  So I can't wait to get this thing dialed in.  Been wanting a little more than my .223 Handi, hoping to get more punts and lofts than I've been getting.  Nothing like a little red mist to brighten your day! ;D

I've had real good luck with 32gr Blitzkings.  If you are going to use it for pdogs try the Barnes Varmint Grenades.  You will see the red mist and watch the dogs disappear into thin air.  That's my plan for this summer if this white sh** ever stops falling.

Best day of p-doggin I ever had was two years ago on Easter.  Had about 2-3" of snow the night before and it warmed up to a nice balmy 50 degrees the next day.  Those little dogs were frolickin around in the snow.  If seen from the air I imagine all you would see was splashes of green, red and brown in the snow.  Once the sun got high enough to see through the scopes the shooting got good.  They were real easy to pick out against a white background for sure.

I'll give the 32 grain bullets a try since it seems to be what everyone likes!

Mine .204 likes 32gr v-max Hornady and not the 40gr.  The 32gr really does the job on yotes and cats and I have never had so much fun with any caliber.

mine shoots the remington accu tips 32 grains and the winchester 34 grain mollys pretty darn well.  Having a hard time finding the hornady around here
