Senator Ted Stevens was set up by Bill Allen and his crews.  And the DC prosecutor used it to get him thrown out of office so a Democrat could be elected here in Alaska.  He had too much clout in DC the Democrates were afraid of him.  Under Bush he was the Senate Pro Tem, second in line for the presidency.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

The misconduct that caused Holder to determine that charges should be dropped should be vigorously prosecuted.

It's too bad Ted didn't pave the way for a Republican to take his place.  I'm glad he's gone, but I wish he'd had a more stable exit, for the whole country's sake.  Unfortunately he was too stupid and/or stubborn to make the sacrifice for the party and he went down with the ship.

While I say it was time for him to go, but not to be replaced with a democrate.  The only reason he was beat was because of the guilty verdict handed out just before the election.

All the people that stood a chance of beating Begich went for Young's spot during the primary.  No one of any substance ran against Stevens in the primary.  Therefore he was in the position of being the only one with a chance of beating Begich.

Most of us were hoping he would be re-elected then resign and be replaced with Sean Parnell or Sara Palin.

It goes without saying that the charges were politically motivated; nevertheless, it's pretty clear that he was guilty as you-know-what.

Syncerus:  I respectfully disagree.  While I'm not saying he is a lily white person.  And I feel it was time for him to go.  I do not believe he was guilty of the charges made against him in court.

Yes he asked Bill Allen to do work for him, which knowing Bill Allen was a corrupt person he should have steered clear of.  Senator Stevens said and had documents that he paid Bill Allen for the work requested.  Bill Allens foreman admitted he went above and beyond the work order given for the work done.  He said under oath at the trial of others that the work done at Senator Stevens house was not supposed to be as extensive as they carried out.  He him self decided to expand it and add on many extras, thinking he could get Senator Stevens in their pocket by doing so.

This is amongst the evidence withheld during the trial.  A major reason they did not want the trail held in Alaska where people had already heard about this, and knew about other evidence coming out at other trials of corrupt Alaska officials.

TM7:  No the judge admonished the prosecution for procedural errors but let the trial continue.  Then he was found guilty, because the prosecution and the judge only let the false evidence of guilt be herd, they suppressed the evidence of innocence.  The guilty charge was announced just before the election.  Stevens lost by a very small amount.  Prosacution has now asked that all charges be dropped, but the court has not acted yet.

These charges were politically motivated.  They wanted to ruin the strongest Senator in Washington, and they did so.  They also wanted to get a Democrat in his position, they were successful in that accord as well.  Now we are stuck with the liberal Begich.

Caesar's wife must be above reproach.

If you want to be a US Senator, you must not only avoid impropriety but also the appearance of impropriety. It is entirely right and proper for the Democrats to scrutinize Republican office holders for signs of corruption, and vice versa. The public scrutiny is a good thing, not a bad thing.

When voter re-elect demonstrably dysfunctional politicians, like Marion Barry, they have nobody to blame but themselves.

Sad but true, he asked for what he got.

Yet, it is very revealing as to the methods employed to obtain a conviction. This alone is enought to overturn the conviction. This makes me sick to my stomach, to win by any means has become the acceptable norm in this country.

This is just one more example of just how wrong things have gotten, just the reason why we as Americans should stand up and throw all these crooks out. We have lost so much in the last decades and are headed for one hell of a fall as a nation if we do not stop this crap.

Alaskans are screaming!!!!!  many people here in Fairbanks are screaming for a new election, so is the Republican party.  Begich is voting along with the Democratic party directly against the way most Alaskans here in the Interior feel.
