Glock 21 .45 factory loads which most accurate?
« on: April 02, 2009, 05:46:33 AM »
I have a Mod 21 and will be trying to hit coyotes out to about 50yd.  What have you had the most success accuracy wise with?  That is in reference to brand of ammo and bullet weight.

Also what degree of accuracy have you gotten?  I have read that 2" @ 25yd is not unusual.

Thanks.

I don't think ammo brands is going to be the largest factor in hitting coyotes at 50 yds! Especially from a field position!. My 21 is capable of 3"-4" groups from a decent rest at 25yds. Ammo I have tried didn't make a lot of difference in mine. I trust you're a lot better shot than I am, doubt that I could hit one standing still at 50ys in less than 2-3 shots. Most won't stand still long enough for that. Great gun for it's intended purpose tho!!

When i bought mine back in the clinton years. I went to shoot at the range one day and there were bowling pins at the 50 yd range. so io at dwon at he bench and started knocking those down, so I was impressed. The ammo was UMC fmj 230 grain. then i stood up and knock em down standing, now not as many as at the bench mind you! So I get up and ask my ole buddy "what do ya think about that" he says "well if you ever get attacked by bowling balls at your dinner table you will be OK!

Now moving coyotes at 50 yards aint bowling balls, so not sure any ammo is gonna be any better than any other for that.  ;)

mine likes the 230 gr. federal hydrashock. it'll hold all 13 rounds in a single hole about 1.5" if you do your part at 25 yds. it also shoots the Rem golden sabre about as well.

I killed a coyote at around 50 yards with a 1911 45 Auto about 30 years ago.  As I recall it was loaded with a lyman cast 225 gr round nose bullet at about 850fps.  The coyote was walking across a newly mowed field and I rested my hands on a fence post.  It droped at the shot and I do not know if me or the coyote was more surprised. ;D

Every automatic is different. Trial and error is the only way of finding out.

I have a Glock model 21-SF (45acp) and it shoots rather well using hardball 230 grn. ammo!
It shot well under 4 inches at 20 yards the other day breaking it in for the first time. I have used both Blazer and UMC ammo for this chore. Now hitting "song dogs" at 50 yards with a pistol bullet in the vitals from a Glock 45 acp is asking a lot. I would have no problem using my Glock model 20 (10mm) but then again, if I were hunting with a pistol for coyotes, I would use either my model 29 .44 mag or my model .460 just in case the yardage became expanded futher than 50 yards.

I like the 230 grain weight in my Glock but if I was going to try for a 50 yard shot on critters I would test out the Remington 185 grain Golden Saber +P. This load is hot and would be worth a try.

Ark. Hiker, I agree 100%, a little lightening of the bullet weight would do wonders down range on the velocity side and flatten out that trajectory also. I won't be shooting any 185 's out of my Glock 21-SF but I never purchased it for dampening the howls of Mr. Coyote either. Instead I'll just keep my model 21 in my cross draw rig and turn up the volume on those rasal yotes with the 10mm on my hip. 8) ;D

Five Winchester White Box 230 JHPs will group 2" or less @25yds out of my G21.

I am going to order a new Glock 21SF this week.  And I  sure as heck hope it would kill coyotes at 50 yards.  I use Gold Dot 45 ACP ammo in my Kimber 1911.  And 50 yard shots on ground hogs are no problem at all.  So I sure as he** hope the Glock would have no problem with this.  Try the 200 grain Gold Dot's on those coyotes, with practice it should be no problem.  Tom.

Speer Lawman 230 ball has always been the most accurate and clocks about 50-80 fps faster than most brands. Blazer Brass has been another good one. Results were the same from from a Glock 21 and a HK 45, so I suspect Speer is making good stuff.
Too bad Glocks don't feed SWC's well.

I don't know about the Glock 21 45 ACP but if you can't hit a song dog at 50 yards with one you better get you a Glock 17 9mm because I could easy shoot one in the head with mine at 50 yards with my hand load of 6 grs Unique and a 115 gr Gold Dot or XTP. Practice makes your gun shoot better  ::) . Most any ammo in any Glock will out shoot the ability of most people.
