Advise on two man tree stand
« on: April 03, 2009, 03:25:48 PM »
I just found a spot I'd like to put a two man tree stand, something around 17 foot that can support my 6'4'' 260 lb big but and my 11 year old son who weighs about 110 lbs. My question is what is a good brand that is comfortable and safe? Any advise would be appreciated.

Pardner I bought one from wally world about 3 years ago that fits that bill. It has a metal ladder that attaches and held me and my son with no problem. He's 6'2" and weighs about 245, I'm old and fat and weigh about 275. It never even groaned  ;D  I'd tell you the name but I'd have to walk in the woods a mile so it may take a day or two. I'm sure that Wally world stll carries it though!  If I remember right it was rated for 400 lbs

Here is my .02.  My daughter and I hunted out of 1 tree using two stands. They were set up with one about 5' higher than the other rotated about 90 degrees. This seems to be common with the TV show hunters, and was source of the idea.

I already own 4 stands and plenty of steps so it saved me quite a bit of money as well. One benefit is that you will not be in the way no matter which direction the action presents itself from. Molly also commented that she could pretend she was alone sometimes but still knew I was there, which she liked.

I have no idea what your plan is, but if you leave your gun at home I don't think you will regret it. The gun stayed home this year and Molly understood it was all about her this year. Dad wasn't there to back her up, I was there as her guide. Had to learn to shut my mouth as I think I gave her too much coaching and she got buck fever terrible because of it.

It's unlikely she had as much fun as I did. The look on her face was priceless and her comment "Dad the gun just wouldn't stop moving" killed me.

I USED THE GENERIC WAL-MART VERSION FOR THE LAST COUPLE YEARS.. UNDER $100 EACH   THEY ARE 12 FEET HIGH AND WEIGHT CAPACITY OF 500 PNDS...  WITH MY MEDICAL PROBLEMS I WEIGHED IN AROUND 375-400 AND MY BROTHER AROUND 200 AND IT STILL FELT VERY SOLID..   WE NEVER HUNTED TOGETHER LIKE THAT BUT SIT IN THEM WHILE RESTING FROM PUTTING THEM UP... WE HAVE 5 OF THEM...  WE INCLOSED THEM WITH 1/4" PRESS-BOARD AND A DOOR FRONT..   PAINTED THEM WITH SHADES OF GREEN AND BLACK ...

I WENT A STEP FARTHER AND BOUGHT CHRISTMAS GARLAND  AT WALLY-WORLD $0.20 FOR 9 FOOT SECTIONS...  ITS THE KIND THAT HAS THE EXTRA PIECES TO BRANCH OUT... EVERY 4-6 INCHES   SO NOW MY STAND LOOKS LIKE A SQUARE PINE TREE...  LOL

COMFORT AND OUT OF THE WIND...   THE PLATFORM IS WIDE AND THE ONLY THING I WOULD HAVE CHANGED IS THE DEPTH OF THE SEAT... IT SEEMS SHORT... HOWEVER AS I SAID ... IM A BIG BOY..

I'm not laughing at you I'm laughing with you,
                             Your just not laughing.......

Ever notice the deer we get is always smaller
                              than the deer we saw..??.lol
