Scientists find active 'super-thermite' in WTC dust
Joe Byrne
Published: Saturday April 4, 2009

A team of nine scientists have unearthed startling data from dust gathered in the days and weeks after the World Trade Center towers collapsed on 9/11. They discovered that scattered throughout the dust samples were red and gray chips of 'active thermitic material', or an un-reacted pyrotechnic explosive.

Thermite is used in steel welding, fireworks shows, and hand grenades. It is the combination of a metal powder and a metal oxide which produce a reaction known for extremely high temperatures focused in a very small area for a short period of time. The 'active thermitic material' discovered in the World Trade Center dust was a combination of elemental aluminum and iron oxide, and is a form of thermite known as 'nano-structured super-thermite'.

“These observations reminded us of nano-thermite fabricated at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and elsewhere; available papers describe this material as an intimate mixture of UFG[Ultra-fine grain] aluminum and iron oxide in nano-thermite composites to form pyrotechnics or explosives. Commercially available thermite behaves as an incendiary when ignited, but when the ingredients are ultra-fine grain and are intimately mixed, this 'nano-thermite' reacts very rapidly, even explosively, and is sometimes referred to as 'super-thermite',” the report explains.

The full article in The Open Chemical Physics Journal can be found here.

Some of the authors of the paper have lost their jobs at universities and chemistry labs for their outspoken breakdown of what happened at the World Trade Center on 9/11. Kevin Ryan lost his job as a lab director after writing a letter to the National Institute for Standards and Technology(NIST was conducting an investigation into 9/11 at the time) challenging the common theory that burning jet fuel weakened the steel supports holding up the 110-story skyscrapers. Ryan claims that the owner of his laboratory subsidiary "was the company that certified the steel components used in the construction of the WTC buildings,” according to the South Bend Tribune. Dr. Steven E. Jones, a physicist at Brigham Young University, presented a paper in 2005 discussing alternative theories to the commonly accepted 'jet fuel' reasoning. In September 2006 he was placed on paid administrative leave and his paper was removed from the BYU database.

Jones has told Visibility911.com, "In short, the paper explodes the official story that 'no evidence' exists for explosive/pyrotechnic materials in the WTC buildings."

Parts of the report mention other studies being conducted by the scientists that will come out soon.

Both of your links appear to be broken...

They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

LOL! That's a really good one... I love it...  ::)

Active thermite! You are aware that thermite is nothing more than iron oxide and aluminum powder right? So they found rust and aluminum powder in the collected dust? I'd be surprised if they didn't!

And don't bother with all the scary words from the article. "nano-structured super-thermite" is just a really scary sounding way of saying that at least one of the components was found to be sub-100 nanometer in size - about the consistency of flour. Not surprising considering the fact that these were DUST samples.

I also love the way they're calling it "highly engineered", "explosive" and "unavailable to the general public". Not one of those descriptions is accurate. First, thermite is not an explosive compound, it burns mightily hot, but it doesn't explode. As far as highly engineered and unavailable, go on youtube sometime, there are tons of videos showing teens and hobbyists setting off their homemade thermite. The components can be readily obtained online or easily manufactured at home.

I don't think that we've got even half of the real story concerning 9/11, but this "analysis" lends no weight to any of your beloved theories.

Our corrosion department uses thermite to bond copper wire to the steel mains with a magnesium anode attached to ground stray electricity off the gas mains to keep them from corroding.  They could have used thermite throughout the WTC to bond wiring or anything like that in the building.  Yes it burns hot and can melt soft metals, which is what we use it for.  How about bonding duct work in the building to seal it.  It is used as a substitute for welding or soldering soft metals such as aluminum and copper.  This building was steel framed, with an aluminum and concrete facade.

I know what a nanometer is. Like I said above, same as you: "sub-100 nanometer"... Bread flour particles range in size from 50 - 100 nm. So yes, in other words - "about the consistency of flour".

It does not take "specialized manufacturing techniques". It's not cost effective to produce in quantities useful for weapons technology. That doesn't mean it's hard to do, just expensive on a mass production scale. Finding <100nm size particles of rust and aluminum in the dust taken from a collapsed building is not a surprise, nor is it compelling evidence of anything untoward.

A sample of dust from my shop would contain tons of both - I cut, grind and polish a fair amount of iron, steel and aluminum in there.

No, I don't have you, or anyone else on ignore. Never have so far.

So did this " super thermite" eplode TM7? Did it blow up? Is thermite an explosive? What is Thermite made of?

Personally, I think it was the flying monkeys from "The Wizard of Oz" that worked for years,
secretly sawing through support beams, to weaken the structure for the day when huge planes
being flown by maniacs, crashed into the buildings, thereby insuring their collapse.

TM7, maybe your one of those guys that overthink things. I've got a friend like that. Instead of keeping things simple, he's got to over engineer a project, and make it much more complicated than it has to be. Doesn't make him bad, just hard to keep up with sometimes. gypsyman

I just love this conspiracy theory trash.  Debunk one part of their theory and they cover themselves by telling two more lies including the thermite myth.  Yep, the US government blew up the Murrah building in OK City, blew up the WTC and shot down an airplane that was taking off from JFK.  They have managed to keep all that secret:  Right!!!!

I still want to know if this "super thermite" exploded? Now TM7 why don't you answer my question? Do you not know the answer or are you just repeaing babble that you have no actual knowledge of?

I wonder is using others lies as fact as bad as actually lying yourself?

Someone posted this same thing on Firearms Talk.  When some other posters dared to question the guy he got all bent out of shape and claimed to be a chemist with an IQ of 146.   After he was laughed off of that thread he posted another thremite thread and claimed to be an construction engineer.  Both posts are now gone.

The WTC attacks were a conspiracy any way you look at it.  I mean, a bunch of mountain people blowing up two of the largest buildings on the planet with box cutters would be a conspiracy wouldn't it?  Some nefarious shadow organization pulling off the attacks and using mountain people as patsy would also be a conspiracy?

I don't think anyone will know the 100% truth ever on what happened.  You all can believe your conspiracy theories while talking about how crazy others are for believing their conspiracy theories.

I don't know if that made any sense.

I'm not an engineer,or a scientist but I'll take a guess.
When I was in the army our unit kept thermite grenades in our combat load. They were to be used to destroy engines ,or anything else made of metal by burning and melting its way through it.
Now, if I got the jist of this super thermite it seems that it will also explode as well as burn. So it seems like it might work like having an "instant cutting torch" that could weaken, or cut through the structural steel beams in a fraction of a second.
Whatever made the twin towers come down, it sure looked like a perfect demolition job to me.

Wind drift, it is called cad welding.  We do it a lot where I work, especially with dissimilar metals.  They could have used it a lot in the World Trade Center.  They had steel framing, aluminum around the windows, concrete, aluminum heating and air conditioning vents that had to be seamed together.  Wiring, etc.  Thermite material could have been throughout the building and that is all it is, or could have been planted there by someone knowing the planes were going to hit, burn, and thereby setting the thermite off.

Sometimes as dumb as our government seems to be and they don't really know and are covering it up?  Could the terroists have got ahold of some or made it, smuggled it in, planted it in the WTC knowing the airliners would crash into them.  We are a pretty open country.  However, as fast as we are headed towards socialism, who knows.
