I've got most of a loaded box & the emptys, but it would cost more than it's worth to get it to you.

That's correct.  Just on loaded cartridges, or primed brass.

Do you reload?  If so I can set you up with some brass and Sierra 180 grain RN bullets.  No hazmat fee on these componets plus I live in Colorado as well. Just have to be patient as I have these in storage and would need to get them out.  I love old Krag rifles!

Yes I reload a lot in fact! My 30-40 dies have been shipped from Midway this week. I found 1 box of Win. 180gr Silvertips. Let me know, would be interested buying what you can spare. Thanks!

Update on the Krag. Hit the range today, shot at 50 & 100yds, wow! I love it. The group at 50 was around an inch and opened up to about  1 3/4" at 100 but was just a real pleasure to shoot. The K4 Weaver has the fine crosshairs so my old eyes didn't do as well as the gun could, I'm sure. Gonna hit the reloader this weekend.

When I was a little guy my Dad had a hunting partner who had a 30-40 Krag.  They returned one evening and hung a buck in the garage and skinned it out.  The partner had made a very good Texas Heart shot.  The 180-grain Silvertip penetrated the full length of the buck exiting the chest.  Seeing the job the Silvertip did on the deer convinced me at the time that the 30-40 Krag was a good rifle to hunt deer with.  The 180-grain Silvertip was GoTo load for a lot of local hunters in those days.  It was used by those packing .300 Savage, 30-40 Krag, and the 30-06.  I have a partial loaded box of 180-grain Silvertips for the .300 Savage.

Know what you mean about Silver Tips and I bought a box of 180 grain Win Silver Tips for the 30-40 last week. I actually shot some 150 gr loads today as I want to save the Winnies for deer or elk this year. I'm going to load some Hornady 180 for more practice. The 30-40 killed a lot of mulies in Colorado.

My Krag belonged to my father, and it took more than its share of elk and deer in Idaho where I was raised.

I also took 2 whitetails and 2 mule deer with it, when I could pry it out of his hands.

It was already semi-sporterized when he bought it in pawn shop in my home town for $15.  I believe I was only 4 or 5 years old at the time he bought it.

Before he passed away, as a present I had it restocked and reblued and had a good reciever sight and front sight installed on it.  I was not sure how the blue would take on that case hardened receiver, but it was a "buff" blue and came out beautiful.  Also had the bolt handle chromed.

I shoot it now for fun.  It hates spitzer bullets.  Likes 180gr RN and I have also put 220gr RN through it.  Damned thing is I can't find any company that makes 200gr RN any more....which I think is the ideal bullet for the 30-40.  I am thinking of getting a custom 200gr GC mould made.   At 200grs of hardcast, I believe I could load the Krag up to its full potential and not have to back off on velocity because of a lead bullet.  I know I could do that at the original design specs of a 220gr lead bullet, but think a 200 gr would be better.

Same reason I had a 280gr GC mould made for my 35 Whelen!!!   :)

Haven't got it yet barstooler, will check a little later. It's 4:24 am, can't sleep, tinnitus is keeping me up lately. I would prefer to load the roundnose 200 or 220 too.

BTW.  I have bad tinnitus also.  Too much jet noise for too many years.  Sounds like I have a cicada buried in each ear. :-\
