I pick up a monson 22 6in barrel at the wannamaker show.  I have read all there is to read on here about them and then some.  It appears most of the issues are from palmer and not monson.  Is that correct?  I managed to get out with mine but did not get to test all the ammo I have.  I had a new shooter with me and he needed most of my time.  I was not pleased with the accuracy however.  I did have one ammo that shot ok for plinking accuracy, so I still have hope. 

My question is what have you found does well in yours?  Standard or high velocity?  The one ammo that did ok was the federal auto match bulk pack. What size groups at 25 yards are you guys getting out of yours?  I really like the gun and think I can get it to shoot.    The gun did appear to be getting better the more I shot it so maybe it likes a dirty barrel but I was also trying different ammo so not sure the cause. ( I was shooting from a rest or I would say it was me)

I struggled with my DW 22 for years, never could get acceptable groups. Then I tried a different barrel assembly and the gun turned into a one hole wonder with whatever ammo I tried. I have heard others complain about trouble getting accuracy out of the DW 22. You either get a great one, or a bad one.
I would suggest replacing the barrel. CZUSA still offers the barrels, and they are a bargin right now for $15 (6 " barrel only, which is all you need.)

Also check your barrel cylinder gap try to adjust it as tight as possible without causing the cylinder to bind.

I had already checked the barrel cylinder gap at 0.002.  Thanks for the info on barrels, I did not know there is still some left over.  I ordered one, but it cost me almost 70 bucks cause I had to get the wrench as well plus shipping.  It will be worth it if it will make it shoot better.  At that price I still have less in it than a smith 617.

I will have to read up on changing barrels, it looks easy enough.  Any tips?

I have just read a couple of articles were guys have replaced there dan wesson 22 barrels with custom barrels and got one inch groups and the other with a factory barrel and one inch groups.  The report was the factory barrel cost 40 dollars.  So at 15 it is a great deal.

There were some problems with the 22, but it seemed to boil down to a batch of barrels from the Palmer plant.  There are a lot of DW owners who are looking for the 22's as they are very popular and since they are made on the same frame as the 357, a cheap way of practicing form with the same frame as the 357.  Check out danwessonforum.com for fellow DW owners and downloads of owner's manuals as well as tips for dis-assembly.

I have two 6" barrels for my DW722M (22 LR & WMR) and one shoots like a lazer and the original shoots like a smooth bore. It has been it the safe for some time now and would sell it if it was any good, but it's not so I won't.

I am also one of those who ended up with a "lemon" barrel.
I bought my DW/22 many years ago (6" barrel) and it never did shoot very accurately. In that same time frame, I also bought the DW/357/4" and the DW/44mag/8", and both of those revolvers shot extremely well. But I could never fall in love with that .22.

Only recently did I learn that there were many of the .22's that left the factory with defective barrels so I assume that I got one of them.
In the mean time, I have also bought the $15/6" stainless barrel direct from CZ but haven't changed it over yet to try it out, and while I was at it, I also bought a new barrel set in 4" for even more fun and to see how accurately the shorter barrel shoots.

Hmm, I wonder if the bad barrels weren't just limited to the .22's. I've got a .357 Monson Dan...the rifling on the muzzle end doesn't looked centered...one side, the grooves are nice and crisp and the other side its about non existant! When I first got it, it was like uh oh! But seems like it shoots good, apparently it a cosmetic thing and there's still enough rifling there to do the job...
