Politically Correct Language
« on: April 09, 2009, 04:50:05 PM »
Just wanted to get some opinions on here. I was on a newspaper website recently. at the bottoms of articles you can leave comments.
Well I guess I made some comments about my views on gun-control and so forth, I was called a right wing wacko.
So I posted a few of my views and one of them was that I hated having to be so politically correct. Like having to say challenged at the end of the new terms they use nowdays.I wasnt even calling anyone the word I used " retarded".
I guess the paper has a filter of some kind so I had to repost and leave half the word blank  " re----ed" to post.I didnt really care,no biggie. Well today I look and someone says GD and its ok. IS IT ME? I find GD alot more offensive than mentally challenged.I was taught not to use the lords name in vain,Not saying I havent but is our country so messed up that being politically correct is more important than being just plain filthy.  ???

I have used GD several times in my life but not for some time now. It was said in anger and I will deal with it if I ever meet him. The retarded thing though. I think people take it to personal. If I myself had a retarted child I don't think I would have a problem with someone refering to that child as such. That is what they are. I see no reason to sugar coat it. I would still love my child. Now if you were to make fun of my retarted child we would have a problem. Now in a conversation, you said my child was retarted and he really was I would not have a problem with that. Do you guys get the point I am trying to get across? Dale

Just because you use politically correct phrases doesn't mean you can't be mean and insulting. Pick your words carefully and say what you like.

Here's a good definition of PC.Slow

This year's term: "Political Correctness"

"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional,
illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous
mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely
possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

I'm sorry, but I just can't figure out what "GD" stand for? Something "Disadvantaged?"

Well, yes Oldshooter, I was serious until I reread the OP's original post and discovered the part about taking the Lord's name in vain. :-[

The part where he said, "I look and someone says GD and its ok. IS IT ME? I find GD alot more offensive than mentally challenged," threw me off. I stopped right there and started looking at how "GD" could be related to "mentally challenged." :D Dumb Me, I guess.  ;)

Its OK Skunk, I was not making fun! I was just nervous that I was stepping in a trap!

I have missed a step now and then myself!  ;)
