All our snappers are kept in a large outdoor holding pen with 18" of water the pens are concrete and are cleaned out once a week. I have a few snappers in there from last year and they are in better shape than when I put them in there. I have all our softshells in large holding tanks in our barn they get a water change once a week.

I don't understand what you mean? I do not now that much about turtles other than trapping. I keep all the soft shells in 5000 gallon tanks I have two but plan on getting a third I have 1000gph pumps in them to keep the water flowing and I have sponge filters attached to the pump output to collect any floating debris. I pump all our water from a spring fed creek here on our farm. Our barn was built for livestock and has skylights in the roof that cause a thick alge to grow on the tank walls. I have never had too many turtles in these tanks and have never noticed a problem with them? What do I look for to see if there OK? Our snappers live in a large concrete pen we built for some black swans(coyote food...) they have built in drains and we pump the water from our creek to fll it. I usually break open a few bails of hay or straw in the water if things are getting crowded it seems to help keep the peace since they can hide all day. I do not know if this is the right wayt to keep them I haven't got too serious about trapping them untill ths year(lay off) so any advice woud be appricated...
