Open Carry Day
« on: April 11, 2009, 09:02:45 AM »
Monday has been selected by the Second Amendent Task Force to be an open carry day here in Fairbanks.  As if we needed to have a day to do this.

Alaska is a "Right to carry" state, meaning anyone legal to own a firearm has the right to openly carry that firearm anywhere legal to carry firearms.  Meaning you can carry it anywhere except banks and bars.

Here is a link to the Second Amendment Task Force web site.  This is just for information, but some of you may want to get something like this started in your areas.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Every day should be open carry day in the United States.

I have to agree.  Some 'free' nation when you aren't allowed the means to protect yourself until you jump threw all kinds of hoops and pay the right fees.

I'm okay with background checks for potential buyers however I believe that the service should be provided to every tax paying citezen at no additional cost.  I also feel there should be no permanent records kept by any government organization, State or Federal, of such background checks or of any subsequent purchases once a license to purchase is issued.

The Wild West is a fallacy dreamed up by Hollywood.  There was a lot less violent crime back then when everyone new anyone could be and most likely was packing protection.

Va is also an open carry state.
I do so on a daily basis most of the time.
We may even carry in a bank as long as it is in plain view and you and the gun are legal.
Yes we will get the looks and more than likely get a visit from the local law enforcement guys but as long as you and the gun are legal there is nothing they can do but watch you.
Which they will do, very closely!

It is funny the reactions you will get from the people on the street when they see someone doing this.
Some cross the street while others will stop and ask questions about the legality of such actions, or say they didn't know we have open carry.

We can't carry into the courthouse or a bar/restaurant that serves alcohol.
The latter just passed the STATES HOUSE but failed in the STATES SENATE.
We will try again next session.

:D I am glad to hear others carry their weapons on a daily basis. ;D :D We have an open carry law here in Wy., but I also have a concealed carry permit. Due to the cold climate, it is easy for my coat or jacket to cover the weapon and then be illegal. So I got a permit. Another perk is when I buy a firearm, there is no instant check. I just do the forms and go. Right now my favorite carry gun is a S & W Model 60 with 38 spl. plus loads 125 grain hollowpts. I sometimes carry my 44 mt. gun with .44 spl. handloads. Have a couple autos, but a life time of  6 gun use has made me feel most comfortable with that weapon. ::)

Even if I don't have it on me it is always in the truck with me, in plain view.

I thought about the permit but decided against it as long as we retain oppen carry.
In the winter I do one of two things.
I either put my shoulder holster on over top of my coats or if it is a belt holster I make sure that the tail is tucked in under the belt.
Gets a little cold that way sometimes.
I have two shoulder holsters.
One adjusted for summer and one adjusted for winter.
Made the mistake once of grabbing the winter one in july for a groundhog hunt.
Didn't know it untill I got there.
What a hassel readjusting it just for one day.
