Galled between the legs?
« on: September 09, 2003, 04:03:05 PM »
Someone will tell me that cooler weather is upon us and this should had been posted last May!  But when those big red patches show up between ones legs from rubbing against each other.    Apply corn starch often and liberally till the pain subsides. Be sure to put some on before going to bed. The next morning you will be much improved. Some places call it corn flower. No not corn meal it will make matters worse and your already miserable enough. The stuff that your wife thickens brown gravy and soups with.  If you have never tried this and are prone to getting in this condition you would gladly pay $5.00 for a half a cup full in some pretty package after trying it once if you were in said condition! :P

A Trick we use in the Army is to wear Compression Shorts (spandex) under our BDUs during Road marches.  The spandex keeps your thighs from rubbing.

Most of us older guys have a wife that can cook and what I wrote about is in the cabinet already.  I think I would look silly in spandex and having the family jewels mashed all day like that doesn't appeal to me.

ZINC OXIDE is there any side affects? What else is it good for? Is it that blue stuff that you use when working livestock?

We did the spandex thing too but added to it we used a set of panty hose
it also kept the leaches off, use the Extra strength kind.

Way back, when I could run 8 miles a day, runners would use petroleum jelly.  Feels kinda funky, but works. :-)

Wear suspenders.  They will keep your pants up where they belong, protecting your inner thighs.  You will also spare your hunting buddies the ordeal of seeing butt-crack all day long.

I have heard to put a piece of chalk in your pants pocket.  Seems like it would work to keep "things" dry...Dallas

Just wear Boxer Briefs they do the trick and you don't have to admit to wearing spandex.

A pharmacist here in Louisiana pantented a diaper rash cream called "Boudreaux's Butt Paste".  It has a cartoon baby on the packaging.  You can usually find it in Walmart.  It is great for irritations of all sorts.  It will definately fix what is bothering you.  I think it contains zinc oxide plus some other stuff.  Kind of expensive, but it goes a long way.

Bear grease/oil. If you haven't killed one lately, get your buddies or taxidermist to save you the pretty snow-white fat, cut it into little pieces and render down just like you would pork skins. Grease your ... area ... crack and all with it, you won't sweat-gall, and if you have to do what the bears do in the woods you'll find the cleanup a lot easier, especially if you don't have toilet paper.

If you don't like the smell, add some saffrasass root and either cinnamon or bayberry oil (careful with that last one, it's strong).

Another advantage is if you put it all over your body (I save the "crack" for last if I'm doing that) you'll stay warmer, it's about like adding a thin pair of long johns. If you get wet your skin won't soak and shrivel, and it'll dry faster. I keep the bottle handy when I stay in the woods at night, a thin coat on my head keeps me as warm as a light toboggan.

It keeps off bugs, too, if you add the sassafras and cinnamon.

It's the best gun oil yet, that's all my flintlooks ever see and they don't rust in the rain.

Did I mention that it's good for frying meat in, too? Just the plain bear oil - for some reason it doesn't get rancid like other oils and lards.

Most all of the above sound as if they would work. But whatever you try, DONT use Blue Star Ointment. I dont care what there add says. They lie. I tried it once and it took my wife 45 minutes to run me     down    Dont do it. Never felt anything like that in my life. And it wont wash off. Couldn't figure out how to get my lower half into the freezer to save my life. I cant say for sure if it will heal anything, but it will burn very much bad, and when the burn heals the rash is gone. I'd rather have the rash.

I'm in a marching band and I can tell you, blue jeans of any kind will definantly compound the situation. Even bluejean shorts are bad. I have a few pairs of khakis I keep just for marching practice. The band would practice out in a parking lot with yardlines painted on it from mid august to late october. Denim seems to trap more moisture. The wool uniform pants are surprisingly good as far as chafing goes.

Gold Bond is a great preventative thing. It keeps chafing from developing because it helps keep you dry. Once you are chafed it burns like hell when you dust it on, but in a little while it helps a lot. First aid cream is another cure I have used.

I'm with intrepidWizard on the Bag Balm, but only if he is talking about the original stuff in the green can with the milk cow head and red clovers on the lid. I have used it for cuts, rashes and other skin ailments for my whole life. I have to buy it on line now, because the local farm stores are stocking another brand in a yellow and red can called Dr Naylor Udder Balm. It is about 1/2 the price of the good stuff, smells like cloves, and burns like a branding iron. The only time I tried it, I passed twodollarpistol and his wife like they were running backwards! I remember passing Forest Gump a couple of times too. If they would have brought this stuff out in the 50s, I suspect milk cows would have beaten monkeys and dogs into low earth orbit!   Cowpox

Cornstarch works, and it's cheap too.

I was a papermaker for 22 years and let me tell ya that it gets mighty hot in the machine room during summer-like 130 degrees in some places.  when you work in that kind of heat you find out what works and stick with it.  I useta keep a small tin of it in my lunchbox just in case.

Actually, jungle rot, as we called it in High School, is a fungus. The only way I ever heard of getting rid of it for good is to wash thoughly and apply iodine. Burns like fire, but won't come back.

I second the boxer briefs, first thing I did when I got out of basic was get rid of my issued brown briefs and get some boxer briefs. Also the Gold bond wrks great when you need that extra comfort...just don't substitute with the gold bond extra strength foot powder

well,if you're looking for an old indian trick, try putting a few leaves from a sweetgum tree in your pants pocket.works like a charm.my whole construction crew uses them and if you've spent any time in Louisiana during the summer you know its hot and humid.luckily sweetgum trees are abundant and we can find them on most any jobsite.I've had several people laugh and think it was crazy, myself included, but if you have sweetgum trees where you live ,give it a try.it works
