.22 LR Handgun- Must Have Scope Mounting Capability
« on: April 12, 2009, 01:57:20 PM »
What is the best, under $400, .22 Revolver or Semi Auto that I can
easily mount a scope on. My old eyes just can't see to shoot
open sights any longer.

I bought a great Ruger Single Six for way under $400 (used).  I also like my Browning Buckmark also for well under $400 and also used.

I just picked up a Buckmark hunter like new but slightly used with an Aimpoint red dot on it Saturday for 350.00.
Man is it ever sweet to shoot. I also have a single six but no scope fun to plink with as well.

I have the buckmark.   Have had it since I was a kid and don't know the model but it has the longer barrel and is a tack driver.

+3 for the buck mark.
Depending on model it may come with rails already on it or a scope mounf can be screwed in place in 20 min if you read the directions a dozen times for about an added $50 for the B Square mount.
I have three Buck marks.
One since I was in HS on the VFMA pistol team and the other two since comming to CA.

Used Browning Buckmarks or Ruger Mark IIs can be had for under $400 and both are easy to ad scopes to. Quality, dependability and accuracy of the two are too close to call IMO so go with the one that feels right in your hand. Even then keep in mind that after market grips are readily available for either one as well.

I have a S&W 22A that is a fine pistol. Two other guys I know purchased them as well, all three of us are very pleased. There is no aftermarket though, if that matters to you. They can be had new for less than $250.

The .22 on which I mount a scope is a Ruger MK II 678GC. It is drilled and tapped for a scope base. I have mounted an Ultradot LT red dot holoscope on it. It is super accurate.

If you like revolvers, my 617 frames are drilled and tapped for a mount as well. I have mounted an inexpensive BSA red dot using a Weaver base for ammo testing. You might find a used 617 for less than $400, but it might be difficult.

I think that would be real hard.  A model 17 runs around 500 in these parts and the 617 is usually 550 to 600.  But it might be worth the extra if that is what you want.

For me, make it the RUGER Mark II!

I have a Slabside Target pistol which came with rings and mounts.

I installed a Leupold 2X which I had the factory set for a 25yd. paralax.

It shoots very well, as with all 22s, with the ammo it likes, 10 shots into a ragged hole at 25yds.

RUGER, as for many years past, gets my vote!

Keep em coming!

I found a Ruger MK II 678GC a couple of years ago for $350. It needed trigger work. I installed a Marvel trigger and a VQ sear. Turned out to be super accurate. I put an Ultradot LT holosight on it. Very nice.
