michigan shoot
« on: April 13, 2009, 12:55:48 AM »
Every year for the last 4 years Mark Stevenson has put on a shoot in the grayling area. Ive missed the last two because of medical problems but plan on going this year. Its a very informal shoot where wives and kids are not only welcome but encouraged. Its a bring what you got shoot and theres ususally lots of neat guns there for you to try. No formal competitions or anyone critiqueing your shooting. Just a bunch of friends getting together to shoot, talk guns and eat good food. Theres camping available in the area if you dont want to do the motel thing. Mark and his wonderful wife usually put on a free feed on saturday night. The shoot this year is the weekend of the july 10th. Marks email is bustersdad480@yahoo.com contact him for all the particulars. I hope to see some of you guys there this year. Like i said myself and my wife and two grandsons will  be there and ill have lots of guns and lots of ammo for guys to try.

The North south skirmish assocaiation also holds a small arms {rifle-pistol etc} that would be right up your alley if you are interested in blackpowder historical arms of that type in september also. You arent going to be very far away from higgins the week of the artillery match

I think I'd like to do that.  I'll have to see what the bride has on her schedule that weekend.  I'll email Mark to find out what camping is in the area.  Thanks.

Lots of camping in the area, particularly along the ausable river but you have to get a site early. Those canoe campgrounds fill up fast on a warm weekend. Theres also campgrounds on some of the small lakes nearby. Jones lake campground is close to the match. The fishing is catch and release only. Nice swimming there but i'd have to warn you, the range 40 artillery-bomb range is directly across the road and it can get a bit noisy at times in there. There are firing points all around that campground including the north FOB base about 1000 yards away.
