I don't trust any pistol right out of the box. All mine have to be proven before I'll carry them.
If I HAD to carry one without trying it out first, based on my experience, it'd have to be a Glock.

Remington
Marlin

Never owned a Weatherby but shot a couple! No problem with Weatherby  The other three are names I trust as well as S&W

and I was a little confused about the location of this thread............ or some of the names.  ???
but I am certain William has an explanation

I can't defend the choice of space for the basis of the post. My thinking has come from many different sources, threads. Therefore it may be in an incorrect space. :-[ :P :'( :-*
It is, however significant, IMO. We purchase something, anything, and some, starting the search for a silk purse, start with price.
I start from base. I don't exspect that any cannot, from time too time, produce a POS. I start from reputation and history. Right out of the box I have trust that the purchase is from a reputable maker. I don't advocate that this purchase IS a silk purse but that this purchase can be a silk purse. I advocate testing and my personal way of doing things is to let someone do some things too make my silk purse my own personal silk purse.
My personal silk purses must go POP til empty. I go with brands I trust.
The typing in this thread is telling.

As far as 1911s go, I have not had, nor have I seen a current manufacture pistol fail to run right out of the box given good magazines, ammo, and properly cleaned and lubed. Well, with the exception of a Rock Island Tactical that I'm working on now. Still, I trust none until they have proven themselves in my hands. Not a 1911 of course, but if I HAD to holster a new pistol without proving it first, it would be a Glock. That's based on my own personal experience and observations of hundreds of Glocks at matches, qualifications, and on the range. I own more 1911s than Glocks and appreciate both platforms on their own merit, but I am not a fanboy of either.

My choices would be:

Colt Auto's: 1911's and Woodsmans only
Colt Revolvers: Anacondas, Pythons and Diamondbacks
Marlin: All Lever Guns
S&W: Model 41's (Sorry, don't care for the revolvers. grip frames don't fit me well.)
USFA: Single Action 6 guns
Remington 870 Shotguns
BushMaster: "Black rifle"  gas guns
Randall knives
Kershaw knives

These Makers / Items have never given me reason for doubt...........

Stevens Model 67 pump 12 ga.
S&W model 1917. .45
Springfield Armory Model 1911 A1 in .45
Glock 19.
And one of these will get me to a more
substantial weapon such as an HK91
Nothing in the AR family will do for me,
don't trust them and never will.
As far as Knives, K-Bar all the way.

Ummmm, let's see:  Fred, Mike, Pete, Bob (brother in law), Lloyd, Sam, Crazy, SharonAnne and a couple of guys whose names I forget now.  These are all names I know who own 1911s or 45s.  Oh yeah, William Layton, too................... Although you did specify brand names but forgot to mention 'firearms' in your original post I s'pose I could always add:  Cream of Wheat, Quaker Oats, Cheerios, Great Grains, most Mozzarella cheeses, Johnsonville Brats, Ballpark Dogs, Castor Oil, most properly labelled gunpowders, Land "O Lakes products, most jalepeno Cheeses.

Sorry William but I have wanted to do that ever since you posted.
