My Pawn Shop .30-06!
« on: April 14, 2009, 03:35:31 AM »
I got this rifle a while back and had a recoil pad put on it as didn't have anything on the buttstock.  I just can't get over the wood on this old JC Higgins rifle.  I picked it up for $300 with an old Denver Redfield 2-7 power.  Unfortunately the old Redfield had a screwed up reticle so I need to send it off to be repaired, but at least I had an old 2-7 Monarch that would barely fit the rings.

Surely a classic example of quality lost in this generation. A really nice find. I bet she shoots as good as it looks. ENVIOUS for sure. ;)

I love shopping in pawn shops for just things like this.  Synthetic stocks and plastic parts do nothing for me; heck even though I can live with it I"m not much a fan of stainless steel either.  Old walnut/blued guns like this really tickle my fancy, and you just don't find them new on the shelves much anymore.  You can find some great deals picking up used ones though.

These are the kinds of rifles I look for nowdays.  The new ones cost twice as much as I'm willing to pay.  I don't like plastic or stainless.
