What exactly IS a TRILLION dollars?

I thought this might be an interesting thing to post.....

We all hear the politicians throwing around figures of large sums of money that's going to be used for this or that or bail us out of trouble here or there.  (as if they were nickles and dimes)  We've all become so accustomed to hearing of it but does anyone really know how much some of these sums are??  Here is a good graphic example:

I read something not long ago about a trillion dollars. The artical said that if you stacked a trillon one dollar bills, it would reach something like 50,000 to 60,000 miles high.

Here are the numbers:

a 1 dollar bill is .66294 cm thick

so if you have 1 trillion of them that would be:

662,940,000,000 cm

or

21,749,999,999.979294 ft

which in turn is

4,119,318.181 mi.

OR

4,119,318 mi. and 319.9 yd

 Now that is if I did the math correct... Just a little useless info to fill up your gray matter...


as a side note the surface area of a dollar bill is 16.0254 in^2   anyone want to do the math as to the sqft of 1 trillion dollar bills laid end to end a side to side... wow...
