10" Barreled Model 83s
« on: April 16, 2009, 03:28:55 AM »
I would really like one in 454, 22 and 357.  Probably can only afford one...surprise...but how often do this show up on the used market in your experience?  I guess my first look will be for a 454.
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

Rimfire,

There is a 10" FA Mod 83 454 field grade on Gunbroker right now...Not a bad price. I love my 10" 454. Good Luck

10" .357's will be rare. The more common long length in that caliber will be 9", as the 10" version would not make the IHMSA 4 lb. weight limit with a Pachmayr grip, so the barrel length was reduced when the gun was introduced, to sell to the Silhouette crowd.
My 9" Mdl. 353 (83) is a true 1 MOA revolver, although I'm almost never a 1 MOA shooter.

I found my 10" field grade used but never fired in a gun shop...but it is the ONLY FA gun I have ever walked into a gun shop and saw on a shelf.

Beware those "good deals" on FAs....  I personally acknowledged their quality but danced around even holding much less buying one for a long time...  A good buddy found me a deal on a 252 Silhouette and I was done for...  I think I now have 16 FAs...
