5.56 NATO in AR-15's
« on: April 16, 2009, 01:28:45 PM »
I know these are loaded a bit higher than regular .223 ammo, What are typical results  like in the AR-15 ?  55 gr.

I have a chance to buy some and was wondering what results were like?

Thanks .

works good enough for the marines, the army, the navy, and even the air force so it should work for you

For a 1:9 twist barrel you'll do fine, if it's a 1:7 you might be dissapointed with accuracy. Might want to check and make sure your gun is a 5.56 chamber AR as not all are.

Accuracy for standard issue 5.56Nato with 55gr FMJ's is around 1.5 - 2 moa out of my my Colt 6920 5.56 chambered 1:7 twist 16" barrel.  I get better with other ammo, but it's ok to plink with.  Don't shoot it in a .223 chambered rifle (unless it's a .223 Wylde).
