PASADENA GUN SHOW
« on: April 20, 2009, 12:28:38 AM »
I have seen better prices at Collector's Firearms here in Houston---and they are pricey to the extreme, sometimes.
Last time for me.

I have to agree, gun shop owners, and people selling guns and gun related items are getting greedy. The guys selling ammo such as 7.62X39 are trying to get $10 to $20 a box of 20 rounds, were it was only $4 to $6  less than a year ago.

Right now, I will only buy a gun from a person that is not on that price gouging train.

the local gun shops are now starting to sit with inventory. I don't mind paying retail, but not retail + $100 or $200 on a pistol or rifle. Ammo is a whole other dimension now.

I agree, I have sold a lot of my ammo that I no longer use at the price I paid for it. I have sold a bunch lately. I had a buddy looking for 38 special ammo, and could not find a box anywhere, I sold him 350 rounds for $100.00 All's I wanted back was what I paid for them. I am sick of there guys trying to rip off a fellow shooter.  It is bad enough what the gun shops are doing, no need adding to it.

My hunting partner brought up a point.  When this frenzy dies down, people are going to have many years worth of ammo sitting on shelves.  The ammo manufacturing plants will then go bankrupt.  No one will need ammo for many years, and there will be a glut of unused ammo on the resale market.

Then when that runs out what will we do?

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Here's my .02 worth, and I'm in the business. You guys remember last summer and fall, when if you took a load of scrap into the recycle place, and got over $2.00/lb. for brass and copper. And lead shot jumped to $50 a bag. Your now seeing the result of that. All the ammo you bought last year, was when the price was reasonable. Will the price go down. Eventually. Anytime soon, probably not. The firearms industry doesn't have the turn around speed that your local gas station has. How many gun shops have you in your city compared to gas stations. And how many people buy gas, compared to ammo and reloading components. So the price's will probably stay high, until the new lower metal price's catch up with the demand. gypsyman

Sourdough-
I don't see that happening as the gun manfacturers just keep coming out with different calibers. How many short fat magnums have come and gone already as they try to replace the '06, 270, 7mm, and 300 mag?

YEA if you notice most every thing new compares itself to the 06, a round that
is over 100 years old and they are still trying to top it (and they have) how
many new calibers do we need? tells me that as soon as a new one wares
down they come out with another.

I don't see that happening at all. There are a lot of people that are still looking to buy ammo. I don't think there will ever be a time people stop buying ammo.

In my opinion, I think once this clears up, people will be doing a lot of shooting, and still buying ammo.

Obamameister has brought in a bunch of new shooters. Hopefully they will stay interested in the Sport. If not, there are going to be some good deals in the future on Guns and ammo...

Ammo is a consumable commodity much like toilet paper or soap.  Most folks use up what they've got and go buy more.   I may be wrong but I don't foresee ammo manufacturers going belly up any time soon.

Here is the kicker:  The big TAX that is fixin to happen for Ammo and  firearms. You dont think so?

Ask a Smoker! He as much as said it, just like the big Gasoline Tax that is coming.

Let me know if I turn out to be wrong about this and  I will apologise !

Ammo may come back but due to the tax you aint gonna want much of it! just like gasoline and cigarettes, and any thing else "they" can think of!

As the Greatest Generation & Baby Boomers start dying...and they are dying off, auctions over the last year have gotten some pretty good deals...and some people just with too much money buying up everything regardless of price. Biding has become ridiculous and comical for no reason but Obama. At some point over the next five to ten years, there are going to be alot of guns on the auction block, estate sale, etc.... I hope by then I have a few extra dollars to buy a rifle....if Obama and Congress haven't caused massive hyperinflation and complete socialism and a rewritten Constitution.

Very true

We're going to specifically see a lot of quality older bolt action rifles that no one wants to buy. I don't think they are going to hold their present value because the new generation is pretty much only interested in the semi-auto handguns and assult weapons. The true interest in bolt actions really lie in the Mosin surplus rifles because they are so cheap to buy and shoot. I probably see 2 of those for every other bolt model at the range (of course with the exception of the month before deer season).

The 1960's, 70's, and 80's bolt actions such as your run of the mill model 700 and 70's are fetching a pretty steep dollar amount right now (in my opinion almost as high as new rifles of the same model). People can debate all day long whether or not older guns are better than newer guns. I can see both sides.

I can see supply and demand dropping these guns down to 200 dollars.
Plinkers don't want 30-06, 270, 25-06, etc rifles.

A lot of people are just stockpiling for SHTF.  When prices go back down people will start buying more/shooting more.

it seems to me that a lot of the high priced guns are jus dealers getting greedy and trying to cash in on the obama effect.i know dealers have to make a living but jeez do they have to try to git rich off every sale.i recently took a couple nice pistols to the tulsa show to sell off. it was funny to stand at a dealers table looking at the same gun yu owned on his table while he proceeded to offer yu 100 to 150 buks less than what his were priced at.i ended up selling both guns to individuals who got a great deal on great guns.
