Range report remington model 7
« on: April 21, 2009, 08:38:46 AM »
Loaded up some rounds for the new model 7 in 7mm-08. Took the gun apart. Ive come to the conclusion that this is pretty much a new gun, besides some very light scatches in the stock , the gun is in perfect condition. Oh yeah it looks like the previous owner sanded out the stock at the tip of the forend. Not sure if thats good or not yet. Wiped down the gun, ran a patch down the bore. Spotless. I had a few 139 SSTs, A few 140 Nosler BTs & a few 120 BTs. Powder was IMR 4064 & W748. Dont have my notes with me but it was around 41grains 4064  & 42.5 of W748.  Used the 120s to get on paper at 100 yds, the SSTs patterned at about 3 inches with both powders ??? :-\ The 140 BTs did a little better one group at 2 inches the last group. 4 shots ,was just over an inch Now Im wondering about the thin little barrel barrel on this rifle. Should it have some pressure at the end of the forend??  Or were the first 3 groups bad cause the barrel was too clean. Oh yeah I let the barrel cool between shots. Not the best range trip, but Im still liking this rifle.
I dont care what gun Im using as long as Im hunting

I leave the factory pressure pad on all my Remington Model Sevens and Mtn. rifles as well. They tend to shoot better that way than completely floated. I do make sure that's the ONLY place touching tho. I've tried removing it like the previous owner did a time or two and it was never good.

I am with graybeard.  I own two 7mm08 model 7's.  The both shoot alot less than a inch.  They both have front pressure.  One of them I purchased used.  it had a credit card cut and put under the front lug to float the barrel.  It shot 2-3 inch groups like that.  Took out the shim it shoots everything I load under an inch.

I cut 2  1/2 inch squares of duct tape & put them under the barrel at the front of the forend. So its touching there ,Then at 2 inches from the lug. Got some more rounds loaded up. gonna try & make it to the range this weekend
