30-06 Patching?

Anyone out there patching a 30-06?  If so, what mould are you using and what do you stoke it with?

I don't have a mould to recomend.  I patched 8mm from my unsized .314 cast WW bullets.  I was on the way to someting when I let the project go for other projects.  The only point I wanted to mention is that you will probably need to slug you 06 to see what the lands will give you to patch with.  having said that you will probably have to size down a .308 pill to give you the desired dia.  I don't know of any bullet in the .297-.299 range that I think you will have to produce to patch up to .308.  Lee will produce a push through sizer for less than a custom mould.  JB

J B,
In theory,The best patched bullet core is .01 over your bore diameter. Most 30'06 bores are .300,so I would start with a core diameter of .301.
That works best for my 30/30.
My 30/40 Krag,on the other hand,will not shoot that bullet. My best accuracy is with a Lyman #311041 bullet sized to .308,and then sized again to .313,after patching. This sizes the core to about .307.

Kragman71, I guess I was not that far off.  I guessed at .299 and you size to .301, How do you get there??  I can't see starting at .311 an working down to it.  Are you using a custom mould for .301?  Also what is your pre sized patched dia. for your Crag.  .316?which squeezes down to .313 with enough pressure to reduce your pill another .001?  JB

JB,
I have two custom molds;one throws a bullet of .304,which I size down to .301 diameter. The other throws a bullet of .3015 dia.
I use Onionskin #9 paper that increases (with 2 wraps)the diameter.007.
My .301 is .308 patched;my 308 is .315 patched.
